1) Will the RCI 7105 electric strike work with my cylindrical lever lock, or do I need a mortise version?
The RCI 7105 is built for both. It's a centerline strike that accepts cylindrical locks and mortise exit and latch locks, as long as the latch projection is 5/8 inch (16mm). If the latch on your lock throws more than 5/8 inch, this is the wrong body for it.
2) Is the RCI 7105 fail-secure or fail-safe?
It ships fail-secure, so the door stays locked when power drops and you still get free egress from the inside lever. The 7105 is field-reversible to fail-safe if your application (a stair door on a fire alarm release, for example) needs the strike to unlock on power loss, so you don't have to order a different part number to get that behavior.
3) What door thickness and frame cutout does the 7105 strike need?
It covers doors from 1-3/8 to 2-3/8 inches (35mm to 60mm), which takes in both standard 1-3/4 inch commercial doors and thicker ones. In the frame you need 1-1/2 inch (38mm) of cutout depth behind the faceplate, and the faceplate itself is 5-7/8 inches with round corners.
4) How much current does the RCI 7105 draw, and will my existing access control power supply run it?
Current draw is 280mA at 12VDC. Size the supply for that per strike plus whatever else is on the circuit. The strike is offered in 11-16 VAC, 12 VDC, 24 VAC and 24 VDC, so match the version to the output you already have rather than adding a converter.
5) Can I use the RCI 7105 on a fire-rated door assembly?
No. The 7105 is not fire rated, so keep it off labeled fire door assemblies. Fire openings need a fail-secure strike carrying a fire label, since the latch has to stay engaged under fire conditions.
6) My old frame cutout is larger than the new strike. Do I need a separate filler plate?
No extra plate to buy. A trim plate is included specifically to cover an irregular or oversized frame cutout, along with mounting tabs and fasteners.
