Rockwood 620 - 160 Degree Door Viewer, for 1-3/8" to 2" Door Thickness

Yes. The Rockwood 620 covers doors from 1-3/8 to 2 inches thick, so a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial or a 1-3/8 inch older interior door both fall inside its range. Above 2 inches it won't reach, and the Hager 1759 viewer takes 1-3/8 to 2-1/8 inch doors if you have a thicker slab.

A 1/2 inch bore. Drill it through the door at the sightline height you want, and the two halves of the brass viewer thread together from either face. If a 1/2 inch hole is bigger than you want to commit to, the Emtek 2610 solid brass viewer uses a 5/8 inch hole, which is larger, not smaller, so the 620 is the tighter prep of the two.

Only if the old bore is 1/2 inch or smaller. The 620 is made for a 1/2 inch hole, so anything drilled larger leaves a gap the barrel won't fill. Common older viewers ran 1/2 inch, so most swaps drop straight in; if yours came out of a 5/8 inch bore you need a viewer sized to that instead.

The Ives U698, Ives U700, Ives U696 and Ives 701 all carry a fire rating, and the Hager 1756 is a 185 degree one-way viewer with a fire rating. The Ives U696 views at 150 degrees, the Ives 701 at 120 degrees, and the Ives U698 at 190 degrees, so the field of view varies across that group. The Rockwood 620 is a residential 160 degree viewer.

The Trimco 975 is the direct match on viewing angle - it is also a 160 degree door viewer. The Trimco 975 covers doors from 1-17/64 inch to 2-1/8 inch thick, while the Rockwood 620 covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. If the doors run thicker than 2 inches or thinner than 1-3/8 inch, the 975 range reaches further at both ends.

The Hager 1756 is built for a 2-1/8 inch door and views at 185 degrees. The Hager 1759 spans 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/8 inch, and the Trimco 975, 976 and 977 all cover 1-17/64 inch to 2-1/8 inch. The Rockwood 620 tops out at a 2 inch door, so on a 2-1/8 inch slab go to one of those.

No - the bore size differs. The Emtek 2610 is a solid brass viewer for a 5/8 inch diameter hole, while the Rockwood 620 installs in a 1/2 inch drilled hole. Going from the 620 to the Emtek means enlarging the bore, and going the other way leaves a 5/8 inch hole with a 1/2 inch barrel in it. Both are brass, so the material is the same.

The 620 is built to ANSI A156.16 and carries the L03222 and L03172 designations. Those are the numbers to write against a viewer line on a hardware schedule or submittal.

Three finishes: 605 bright brass, 625 bright chrome, and 619 satin nickel. 605 pairs with polished brass levers and hinges, 625 with polished chrome, and 619 with the brushed nickel most apartment packages use. Standardize on one code across a building and every unit door reads the same.

No cover. The 620 is a plain two-piece brass viewer with an open lens on the inside face. If your residents want to close the eye off, the Hager 1759 has a privacy flap and fits 1-3/8 to 2-1/8 inch doors, or the Cal-Royal PRIULDV200 is a privacy viewer with a cover.

The Ives 701, Ives U696, Ives U698 and Ives U700 are one-way brass viewers, and the Hager 1756 and Hager 1759 are one-way viewers at 185 degrees. The Rockwood 620 is a brass 160 degree viewer meeting ANSI A156.16 under L03222 and L03172. For a security integrator specifying against a one-way requirement, the Ives and Hager units name that construction directly.

The Cal-Royal PRIULDV200 is UL listed, with a 200 degree glass lens and a privacy cover, and the Ives U698 is UL fire rated at 190 degrees. The Ives U700 is a one-way brass viewer with UL fire rating. The Rockwood 620 is a brass residential viewer built to ANSI A156.16.

The 620 body is brass, which matters where a viewer gets handled and rotated by tenants year after year and where the lens has to stay clear. Brass also takes the plated finishes cleanly, so 605, 625 and 619 hold up rather than flaking the way coated plastic does.
