Rockwood BF97L US32D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What fasteners come with the Rockwood BF97L barrier free flush pull and do I need anything else to install it?
Mounting is #8-32 stud welded lugs with #8-32 flat head machine screws. The lugs are welded to the back of the pull, so you drill through the door for the studs and draw it up from the opposite face with the machine screws. You still need to rout the 7/8 inch deep pocket for the cup and drill the lug holes. Security Torx screws are available as a TORX option if you're in a detention, school, or other tamper-prone setting.
2) Can I use the Rockwood BF97L flush pull in a behavioral health or detention room?
The BF97L is a plain recessed stainless cup with no drop ring and nothing that projects, and Rockwood trim of this type is used in detention facilities. Security Torx screws are offered as the TORX option to keep it from being unfastened. It is not marketed as a ligature-resistant pull though. If ligature resistance is the requirement on the door, the ABH 1911 Series flush door pull is the one built with a ligature-resistant design.
3) Is the Rockwood BF97L rated for commercial use, or is it a residential pull?
Commercial. The BF97L is stainless steel with ANSI A156.6, J403 behind it, and Rockwood trim of this kind goes into institutional buildings, offices, retail, schools, detention, sports facilities, hotels, and restaurants. For a residential pocket door where the look matters more than the traffic, a decorative pull such as the Baldwin Estate 8601 pocket door pull is the other direction to go.
4) I need flush pulls on both sides of a sliding door. Do I order two Rockwood BF97L pulls?
Yes, one per face. The BF97L is a single cup pull, so a door that gets pulled from both sides takes two. Watch the stud welded lug fastening when you do that: the lugs pass through the door and take machine screws from the opposite side, so two pulls mortised directly back to back on the same centerline will fight each other for the same holes. Offset the two pockets vertically, or confirm your door thickness leaves material between two 7/8 inch deep cutouts.
5) Can I use a Baldwin Estate 8601 pocket door pull in place of the Rockwood BF97L?
They serve different jobs. The Baldwin Estate 8601 is a pocket door pull for passage and dummy applications - a decorative residential-grade trim item. The Rockwood BF97L is a commercial stainless steel barrier free pull built to ANSI A156.6, J403 and offered in 613 oil rubbed bronze, 626 satin chrome, and 630 satin stainless steel. On a finer residence where the Estate look drives the selection the 8601 fits; on a commercial opening carrying a BHMA callout it will not answer the spec.
6) Is the Rockwood BF97L flush pull stainless steel all the way through or just plated?
Stainless steel is the base material. In 630 satin stainless the finish is the material itself, so scratches and wear in a high-traffic corridor don't expose a different metal underneath. The 613 oil rubbed bronze and 626 satin chrome are applied finishes over that same stainless body.
