The standard screw-applied K2060 is a plastic protection plate with no rating claim attached to it. Where a rating matters, the self-adhesive SA-F option (K2060SA-F) is UL approved for use on 90 minute wood doors and 3 hour metal doors. If the opening is a labeled fire door and you want the adhesive mount, order the SA-F suffix, not plain SA.
3) Can the K2060 kick plate be installed without drilling the door?
Yes. The SA option (K2060SA) is a self-adhesive mount, so no screws go into the door face. That matters on aluminum, glass front, and hollow metal doors where a property manager does not want new holes, and on fire doors where the SA-F version carries the UL approval. Ordered without a suffix, the plate ships for screw mounting with #6 x 3/4 inch truss head sheet metal screws.
4) What is the stainless steel equivalent to the Rockwood K2060 door plate?
The K2060 is a .060 inch Kydex 160 PVC acrylic alloy plastic plate in black. Where the same opening needs a metal plate instead, the Hager 190S kick plate is offered in a satin stainless steel finish with four beveled edges, and the Ives 8400 series is a stainless steel door protection plate with beveled edges. All three do the same job of shielding the door face from cart and foot traffic; the decision is the plastic face of the K2060 against a stainless face on the 190S or 8400.
5) What is Kydex and how does it hold up compared to a stainless steel kick plate?
Kydex 160 is a PVC acrylic alloy plastic, and the K2060 uses it at .060 inch thick. It will not dent the way a metal plate does when a cart hits it, it does not show fingerprints, and it will not corrode in wet or chemical areas. It also will not be mistaken for stainless on a spec that calls for metal. If the drawing or the rest of the building calls for stainless, the Hager 190S kick plate in satin stainless and the Ives 8400 Series stainless protection plate are the metal equivalents.
6) I need protection higher up the door than a kick plate covers - is a kick plate the right part?
Not if the damage is above kick height. The Hager 190S is a kick plate and the Ives 8400 is a door protection plate, both stainless. The Rockwood K2060 is ordered by height x width and runs to tall sizes such as 24 inch x 36 inch and 34 inch x 40 inch, which covers the armor and mop plate range on the same part number rather than the low band a kick plate occupies. Specify height x width x finish code when ordering.
7) The plate has to go over a door with a lock and a louver - which of these plates can be cut for that?
The Rockwood K2060 is ordered with cutouts for locks, louvers or windows as an option on the plate, so a single plate can be worked around the existing prep. The Hager 190S and the Ives 8400 are stainless plates with beveled edges. Where the opening has obstructions to clear, the cutout option on the K2060 is what addresses it.
8) Can I install a protection plate without drilling the door?
The Rockwood K2060 is offered with SA self-adhesive mounting as the K2060SA, and with SA-F self-adhesive mounting as the K2060SA-F, which is UL approved for use on 90 minute wood doors and 3 hour metal doors.
