ROFU 3401 Fail Safe Electric Strike, Wood Frame, Faceplate Size 1-1/4" x 5-7/8"

The keeper takes up to 5/8 inch of latch projection. With 1/8 inch of door-to-frame clearance the usable keeper depth goes to 3/4 inch. A standard cylindrical lockset latch at 1/2 or 5/8 inch throw drops right in; a 3/4 inch Pullman or deadlatch on a rim exit device is outside what this keeper is cut for.

It unlocks. The 3401 is fail-safe, so the keeper releases the moment power drops and the door can be pushed open from the outside. That is what you want on an egress path tied to a fire alarm release, and what you do NOT want on a perimeter or storage door where a power outage should leave the opening secure. For fail-secure on a wood or hollow metal jamb, look at the Adams Rite 7170 or the Von Duprin 4211.

You pick the voltage at order: 12 VDC or 24 VDC, each available in satin chrome (626) or satin brass (606). It is a single-voltage strike per unit, not a field-selectable dual-voltage board, so match the order to the power supply you are already running. If you need one part number that covers both rails, the Hager 2930 and the Von Duprin 4211 are 12/24 VDC selectable.

No. A fail-safe strike releases the latch when power drops, which is the opposite of what a fire door assembly requires, and this strike carries no fire rating. For a rated opening, go to a fire-rated fail-secure strike such as the Von Duprin 6400 (3-hour UL 10C, fail-secure), the Adams Rite 7240, or the SDC 45F.

The faceplate is 1-1/4 by 5-7/8 inches, so it covers that same prep without enlarging the mortise. Two things still need to check out: the existing latch has to project no more than 5/8 inch into the keeper, and your existing device has to be fail-safe if you are replacing like for like. The Trine 001 and Trine 2001 use the same 5-7/8 by 1-1/4 inch faceplate but run fail-secure.

The ROFU 3401 uses a 1-1/4 inch by 5-7/8 inch steel faceplate for wood frames. Two peers share that faceplate size: the Trine 001 Series, a light commercial fail-secure strike with a 5-7/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch faceplate, and the Trine 2001 (16-24VAC/DC), a fail-secure strike with a 5-7/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch faceplate and up to 5/8 inch throw. Both are fail-secure rather than fail-safe, so they unlock only when the door is opened from the secure side, whereas the 3401 releases on loss of power.

The ROFU 3401 is fixed fail-safe. If you want the mode decided at install rather than at order, the Hager 2925 offers field reversible fail safe/secure operation with a 5/8 inch latch, matching the 5/8 inch maximum latch projection of the 3401. The Hager 2928 is also field reversible, and the Hager 2930 adds a Grade 1 fire rating for cylindrical and mortise locks with 12/24VDC dual voltage - the 3401 instead ships as separate 12 VDC and 24 VDC variants.

It is classified for commercial use. That said, it is a wood-frame strike with a steel faceplate and no published grade, so for a heavily abused opening, an entry with high pull force, or anywhere you need Grade 1, step up to something like the Alarm Controls AES-100 or a Von Duprin 6400.

No monitoring. The 3401 is a plain release strike with no latch sensing contacts. If your access control head end needs door-secure feedback, use a strike that carries it, such as the Dortronics 3300 with its latch bolt sensing switch or the Hager 2945 with latchbolt monitor.

The ROFU 3401 is a straightforward fail-safe strike with a steel wood-frame faceplate. If the access control system needs latch status back, the Dortronics 3300 Series includes a latch bolt sensing switch and runs 12/24VDC with a strike plate for ANSI prep at 4-7/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch, the Hager 2945 is a fire rated rim exit strike with a latchbolt monitor and field selectable fail safe/fail secure, and the Camden CX-ED1799L-8 is a Grade 1 dual monitor fire rated strike supplied with eight faceplates.

They are close on latch capacity but not on function. The SDC 15 Series is a value strike for a 5/8 inch latchbolt with 12/24 VDC operation, and the ROFU 3401 also accepts a 5/8 inch maximum latch projection and is offered in 12 VDC and 24 VDC. The difference is the frame: the 3401 faceplate is 1-1/4 inch by 5-7/8 inch steel for wood frames, so confirm the SDC prep matches your jamb cutout before swapping. If your latch is 1/2 inch rather than 5/8 inch, the SDC 25 Series is the one built for that.

Installing the ROFU 3401 means preparing the wood jamb for a 1-1/4 inch by 5-7/8 inch faceplate. Where cutting the frame is not acceptable, the Locknetics NC450 is a no cut electric strike. If you would rather stay with a heavy duty Locknetics body, the MDS100 and MS100 are both heavy duty strikes in US32D.

The ROFU 3401 is a single-keeper strike with a 5/8 inch maximum latch projection on a 5-7/8 inch wood frame faceplate. For a double door opening, the Rockwood electric strike for double doors uses a 3/4 keeper and is a fire rated Grade 1 unit in the 310-1 Series. For a mortise lock, the Securitron MUNL Mortise UnLatch is a Grade 1 fire rated strike, and the Von Duprin 6210 is a Grade 1 heavy duty strike for mortise locks at 24 VDC fail-secure with a UL 10C fire rating.

Two finishes: 626 satin chrome and 606 satin brass. 626 is the standard match for satin chrome and brushed stainless lever trim across most commercial buildings; 606 is for brass openings. Both are offered with either the 12 VDC or 24 VDC strike.
