1) Will the Sargent 10XG7 electrified lever lock fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes. The 10XG7 cylindrical lever lock covers doors from 1-3/4 inches up to 2 inches thick, so a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door is right in the middle of its range. If you have a thicker-than-2-inch door or an older 1-3/8 inch interior door, this is not the lock for it.
2) Do I have to order the Sargent 10XG7 as fail safe or fail secure, or can I change it in the field?
Both. The 10XG7 is field selectable between fail safe and fail secure, and it is also ordered as one or the other, so you can spec the mode you want up front and still flip it on site if the application changes. Fail safe unlocks when power drops (typical on egress paths tied to fire alarm release); fail secure stays locked on power loss and is the usual choice for exterior and tenant doors where you don't want the opening to free up in an outage.
3) Can the Sargent 10XG7 run on my existing 24VDC access control power supply?
Yes. The 10XG7 is a dual voltage lock rated 12 or 24 VAC/DC, so it drops onto either a 12V or 24V supply without a separate converter. Confirm your supply's current capacity for the number of locks on the circuit before you wire it in.
4) Can I use a Sargent 10XG7 on a fire rated door?
Yes, the 10XG7 carries a 3 hour {A} fire rating, which covers openings up to a 3 hour label. Note that on a fire door assembly the lock normally has to be fail secure so the opening stays latched and locked under alarm conditions, unless the fail safe version is released by a listed fire alarm interface per the door's listing.
5) Will the Sargent 10XG7 work with our existing key system and interchangeable cores?
The 10X lockbody takes all Sargent cylinder formats, from fixed cylinders through interchangeable core, and works with Degree, Signature, KESO and other Sargent security key systems. As configured it uses the LA keyway, so if your building is keyed to a different Sargent section you would specify that keyway when ordering rather than rekeying in the field.
6) What strike comes with the Sargent 10XG7, and will it drop into my existing frame prep?
The 10XG7 is furnished with an ASA strike, which is the standard 4-7/8 inch lip-to-lip commercial frame prep. If your frames are already prepped for an ASA strike from an earlier 10 Line or another Grade 1 cylindrical lock, the frame side will match. Hollow metal frames prepped only for a small T strike will need modification.
7) Does the Sargent 10XG7 match the look of the mechanical 10 Line locks already on my other doors?
Yes. The 10X Line was built to be visually identical to the 10 Line, so an electrified 10XG7 on an access controlled opening will match the mechanical 10 Line locks on the rest of the doors in the same finish and lever style. That is the usual reason property managers and facility groups standardize on it: only the controlled openings get the electric lock, and nothing looks different in the corridor.
8) How does someone get out if the Sargent 10XG7 loses power or the credential reader fails?
The 10XG7 uses a push/turn button for manual override, with the button recessed so door stops and walls can't damage it, and the cylinder gives key override from the outside. On the fail safe version, losing power also releases the outside lever. Inside lever egress on a cylindrical lock is always free, which is what keeps the opening compliant on an egress path.
9) What do I need to plan for on the wiring side before installing a Sargent 10XG7?
Plan for a power transfer path from the frame to the door leaf (electric hinge or door loop), a 12 or 24 VDC supply sized for the lock, and access to the lock case for the mode selection before the trim goes on.
