2) What comes in the Sargent 437RC kit?
Fifty hollow top pins, 100 hollow top pin springs (part 13-0487), and 50 cylinder retainers (part 01-0660). It's a pin supplement, not a full pinning bench: you're getting the hollow top components and the retainers to close cores back up, not a complete pin kit with every standard bottom and top pin.
3) Do I need the 437C or 437S kit as well as the 437RC?
For most jobs, yes. The 437RC supplies hollow top pins and springs for chambers 3 and 4 only, and it's meant to work alongside a 437C or 437S kit to extend a keying system. If you're setting up a master key system from scratch, order the 437C or 437S for the standard pin range and use the 437RC to add the hollow top positions.
4) What are hollow top pins actually for in a Sargent large format core?
They go in chambers 3 and 4 of the core and give you extra key change capacity in those two positions, which is where a master keyed system runs out of room first. The hollow tops come in the same increments as Sargent's standard pins, so they drop into an existing bitting chart without recalculating your system.
5) Is the Sargent 437RC kit for a conventional key system or a restricted/patented keyway?
The 437RC is catalogued against Sargent's Conventional Key System and is a commercial-duty component. It's the pin supply side of the system, so it works with whatever conventional Sargent keyway your 6300 or 10-6300 cores are cut to; the pins don't determine keyway, the core does.
6) How many cores will one Sargent 437RC kit repin?
Count on the retainers as the limit. With 50 cylinder retainers and 50 hollow top pins in the kit, you can close out 50 cores, using one hollow top pin per core. If you're running hollow tops in both chamber 3 and chamber 4 on the same core, the 50 pins cover 25 cores instead. The 100 springs give you spare on the spring side either way.
7) I manage a building on Sargent removable cores and need to expand the master key system. Is the 437RC what I order?
It's part of it. Expanding a master key system on Sargent 6300 or 10-6300 cores usually means you've exhausted the available cuts in the middle chambers, and the hollow top pins in the 437RC open chambers 3 and 4 back up. Order it with a 437C or 437S so your locksmith has the standard pin increments on hand as well. This is a shop item, not something installed in the door; the cores come out, get repinned, and go back in.
8) Are the 13-0487 springs and 01-0660 retainers in the Sargent 437RC the same ones already in my 6300 cores?
