1) Will a Sargent C480 cylinder fit my 464 deadbolt, or do I need a different part?
The 460 and 480 Series auxiliary lock cylinders cover models 464, 484, 465, 485, 487 and 486. Which one you order is a real choice, not a formality: the function axis splits into 464/484, 465/485/487, and 486, so the cylinder is matched to the deadbolt family it goes into. Pull the model number stamped on your existing Sargent deadbolt before ordering and pick the matching function group. A cylinder ordered for the 486 is not the same part as the one for the 464.
2) Can I get Sargent 480 deadbolt cylinders keyed alike so one key runs a whole building?
Keyed alike is an option on these Sargent auxiliary lock cylinders, alongside keyed different and standard keying. Standard supply is 1-bitted with two nickel silver keys, meaning the cylinder ships uncombinated for a locksmith to key on site. If you want them keyed different or randomly keyed from the factory, that is the KD option. For a property manager running one key across multiple doors, order keyed alike and specify the group.
3) Which Sargent keyway do I order so the cylinder works on my existing master key system?
Nine keyways are offered: LA (the standard), LB, LC, LE, LF, LG, LJ, LK and LL. The keyway has to match the system already in the building, so read it off an existing Sargent key or your keying schedule before ordering. These are conventional key system cylinders and are built for master key integration, with keying details supplied on Sargent Keyed Order Lead Sheets. 4) My Sargent deadbolt still works but the key is worn out or a key went missing. Do I replace the whole lock?
No. The cylinder is a replacement part for 460 and 480 Series deadbolts, so on a lost-key or worn-plug situation you swap the cylinder and leave the bolt, housing and door prep alone. That keeps the existing door prep intact and is the fast fix after a tenant turnover or a lost key. Match the deadbolt model number and the keyway on your system, and specify keyed alike if the new cylinder has to run on the same key as the rest of the doors.
