The R167 spy proof dial ring handles a maximum door thickness of 3.406 inches. If the safe door (including any inner liner or boltwork cover the spindle has to pass through) measures more than that, this ring and the standard spindle arrangement behind it won't reach, and you'd need a longer spindle setup for the opening.

The ring is the dial ring only, the graduated collar that mounts to the safe door face and that the dial turns against. The dial itself and the lock body are separate parts. If you are replacing a damaged or worn ring on an existing R167 spy proof installation, the ring alone is what you need; if you are building up a fresh installation you will also need the matching spy proof dial and a Group 2 or 2M lock body.

A spy proof ring shields the index and numbering so the combination position can't be read from off to the side while someone is dialing, which is why they show up on commercial safes, cash rooms, and pharmacy or records safes where the safe sits in a staffed area. Functionally the R167 ring is still just the graduated collar the dial reads against, so it doesn't change the lock's Group 2 or 2M rating on its own.
