1) Will the Sargent & Greenleaf Spartan safe lock drop into my existing S&G lock footprint without drilling?
The Spartan mounts to the standard S&G Magic module footprint, so it goes into an existing safe body prepped for that pattern with no special tools or drilling. It is also universally handed: left hand, right hand, up, or down mounting, so the orientation of your bolt work does not change the part you order.
2) Is the Spartan a deadbolt lock or does it just block the safe's bolt work?
It's a blocking lock, not a lock that throws your bolt work for you. The Spartan lock bolt extends and retracts under the movement of the safe's own bolt work, and a motor-driven blocking device holds it. That means the handle or spinner still does the mechanical work of moving the bolts; the Spartan decides whether that movement is allowed. It also re-locks automatically whenever the bolt work returns to the fully closed position, so there is no separate lock-up step.
3) How many people can have their own code on the Spartan safe lock?
Two: one master code and one user code. The manager holds the master and can add, delete, or enable and disable the user code from the keypad, and there is a management reset code. Codes are field programmable at the keypad with one million combinations available. If you need more than two credentials, for a shared or multi-user container, this is the wrong lock.
4) Is this the one-battery or two-battery Spartan keypad, and what finish?
This is the one-battery Spartan keypad in bright chrome, manufacturer part YBLED60/PCT. Spartan keypads also come as a two-battery keypad, a quick-mount keypad, and a non-rotating low profile keypad, so specify which body style you want when you order. Direct drive is only offered in the low profile rotating keypad, not in this one.
5) How much force will the Spartan lock bolt take in a pry attack?
The Spartan bolt withstands 225 lbs of bolt-end pressure, and the bolt itself is stainless steel. That figure is what matters in a blocking application, where an attacker loading the safe's bolt work puts pressure straight onto the lock bolt end.
6) What battery does the Spartan gun safe lock use and how long does it last?
One 9V alkaline battery, tested up to 10,000 openings on that single cell. The motor-driven mechanism draws less than a solenoid design, which is where the battery life comes from. The keypad gives a low battery signal before it gets critical.
7) Does the Spartan use S&G programming or LaGard programming?
Both are supported. The Spartan runs STAR, which is the S&G programming sequence, and BASIC, which is LaGard programming. That matters if you are replacing a LaGard-programmed lock and the end user already knows that key sequence, they can keep operating the way they are used to.
8) Is the Spartan electronic safe lock EMP resistant?

10) Will I know whether the Spartan lock bolt actually extended before I walk away from the safe?
