Satco Lighting S11216 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Satco S11216 LED lamp fit a double contact bayonet socket in my existing exit sign or stair fixture?
Yes. The S11216 uses a double contact bayonet (BA15d style) base, so it drops into any double contact bayonet socket. Note the base is plastic, not brass, so seat it by hand and do not over-twist. If your fixture has a single contact bayonet socket, this lamp is not the right part.
2) What incandescent bulb does the Satco S11216 4W LED replace?
It is the LED replacement for a 35 watt incandescent, drawing 4 watts and putting out 460 lumens at 3000K warm white. Current draw is 0.033-0.031A, so on a circuit that was running a bank of 35W miniature lamps you free up a lot of load.
3) Can this Satco T4 LED bulb be used in a fully enclosed fixture?
Yes, it is an enclosed rated lamp, so sealed jelly-jar type fixtures and closed decorative housings are fine. It also carries a damp location rating, which covers covered exterior walkways, bathrooms and stairwells, but not wet locations with direct water exposure.
4) Is the Satco S11216 dimmable, and what voltage does it run on?
It is dimmable and runs on 120 to 130 volts, so it works on standard line voltage circuits including the 130V-rated wiring common in older commercial buildings. Dimming performance still depends on the dimmer, so test one lamp on the existing control before you relamp a whole floor.
5) Does the bulb have to be installed base up or base down?
Neither. Burning position is universal, so the S11216 can go base up, base down, or horizontal in a sconce or candelabra-style fixture without affecting life. The frosted lens gives a 360 degree beam spread, so light distributes evenly no matter how the socket is oriented.
6) How long will these LED miniature lamps last before maintenance has to relamp again?
Average rated life is 25,000 hours. On a stairwell or corridor fixture running 24/7 that is roughly three years of continuous burn, which is why facilities crews standardize on these instead of 35W incandescent miniatures that need changing several times a year.
7) Is this bulb a good color match for the 3000K lamps already in my building?
Yes, as long as the rest are warm white 3000K. This lamp is fixed at 3000K with an 80 CRI rendering; it is not a CCT selectable lamp, so you cannot field-adjust it to 2700K or 4000K. If your other fixtures are 2700K soft white, this will read slightly cooler beside them.
8) Does this Satco LED lamp meet California Title 24 requirements?
Yes, the S11216 is listed as Title 24 compliant and is FCC compliant. It is not a DLC approved product, so if your utility rebate program requires a DLC listing, this lamp will not qualify for that particular incentive.
9) Will the Satco S11216 work in a three-way fixture?
No. It is a single-output lamp, not three-way, so in a three-way socket it will light at one level only. For stepped output you need a lamp specifically built as three-way.
