SATCO Lighting S11873 15W LED Low Profile Regress Baffle Downlight, 6in, Remote Driver, CCT Selectable, Square Shape, 120V

The S11873 is a 6 inch direct wire LED downlight for recessed ceiling mounting, so it goes into the ceiling opening rather than screwing into a lamp socket. The square trim measures L 7.17 x W 7.17 inches with a 1.29 inch height, so the visible plate overlaps a nominal 6 inch cut-out. Because it is direct wire with a remote driver, line voltage lands in a junction box rather than an existing can's socket.

The fixture body is only 1.29 inches high, which is why it is called low profile. The driver is remote, so it mounts separately in the ceiling cavity instead of adding depth behind the trim. That combination is what makes it usable in shallow joist bays and sloped or tight plenums where a canned fixture will not go.

It carries an IP65 rating and a Wet location rating, so water exposure is covered. Satco classifies it as an Indoor fixture, so for a shower or other damp indoor space it is appropriate; for an exterior soffit choose a fixture listed for outdoor use.

Five field selections: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K. You set the color temperature on the fixture at install, so one stock item covers warm residential corridors at 2700K through 4000K or 5000K back-of-house areas. Wattage is not selectable, it is fixed at 15W.

Title 24 compliant, and certified cETLus for both US and Canadian use. It is also FCC compliant and RoHS compliant, which covers the paperwork most institutional and multi-family specs ask for on a recessed LED.

Yes, the S11873 is a dimmable 120V fixture. Driver is remote, so the dimmer sees the driver rather than the trim. If the room already runs on a dimmer circuit you can keep it.

The S11873 is the square version, 7.17 inches on each side. Square trims read better in buildings where the ceiling already has square diffusers, registers or tile joints to line up with; round trims are the safer match when you are replacing existing round can trims on the same ceiling. The regress baffle on this one sets the LED back from the aperture to cut glare, which matters in corridors and offices where people see the ceiling at an angle.

White finish on an aluminum body, in a utility style, weighing 1.38 lb. The aluminum helps shed heat from the LED, and the light weight means it supports off the ceiling opening without added bracing.

Satco publishes both an installation instruction sheet and a full spec sheet for the S11873, covering the wiring and mounting detail for the remote driver version. If you are bidding the job, the spec sheet is what to attach to the submittal.
