1) Does the Satco S13150 LED HID replacement need the existing metal halide ballast removed?
Yes. The S13150 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so it runs on line voltage directly. The existing HID ballast and igniter have to be removed and the socket wired to 120-277V line power before the lamp goes in. If you want to leave the ballast in place, this is the wrong lamp type and you need a Type A plug-and-play HID replacement instead.
2) What HID wattage does this 72W Satco LED actually replace?
At 72 watts it puts out 11,000 lumens and is rated as a 400W equivalent, so it is the swap for a 400W metal halide or HPS high bay. Light color is 4000K neutral white with 82 CRI, and the beam is a 180 degree spread for broad coverage under a high bay reflector.
3) Can this high bay LED lamp be installed base down or horizontally?
No. The S13150 is rated base up only. Mounting it base down or horizontal puts the heat sink in the wrong orientation for thermal management, so for pendant or wall-pack fixtures that fire the lamp downward or sideways you need a lamp rated for universal burning position.
4) Is the Satco S13150 OK in a sealed or enclosed high bay fixture?
Yes, it is an enclosed rated lamp, so a closed acrylic or glass-lensed high bay or a gasketed fixture is fine. It also carries a damp location rating and is listed for indoor or outdoor use, which covers covered loading docks, canopies and parking structures. Damp is not wet, so direct rain exposure is out.
5) Will this lamp qualify for a utility rebate or meet California energy code?
The S13150 is DLC approved and Title 24 compliant, which is what most utility prescriptive rebate programs ask for on HID-to-LED retrofits, and it is FCC compliant for emissions. Rated life is 50,000 hours.
6) Is the Satco 72W EX39 HID replacement dimmable, and what circuit load should I plan for?
It is dimmable and runs on 120 through 277 volt, 50/60Hz, so the same lamp works on 120V single phase or 277V commercial circuits. Current draw is 0.600A at the low end of the voltage range down to 0.260A at the high end, which is what you use to size how many lamps go on a branch circuit.
7) Can I switch this Satco high bay lamp between 3500K and 5000K on site?
No. The S13150 is fixed at 4000K and is not CCT selectable. If you need to match other 5000K or 3000K fixtures in the building, order the lamp in that color temperature rather than expecting a field switch.
