Satco Lighting S16430 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I have to remove the existing fluorescent ballast to install the Satco S16430 T8 LED tube?
Yes. The S16430 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so it runs on line voltage and the existing fluorescent ballast has to be removed or disconnected and the sockets rewired to 120-277V. It will not operate on an existing fluorescent ballast. Plan on an electrician for the rewire, since the sockets carry line voltage after conversion.
2) Is the Satco S16430 wired single ended or double ended?
Either. The S16430 accepts single ended or double ended wiring, so it works whether you bring line and neutral to one tombstone or split them to opposite ends of the fixture. That flexibility is useful on a retrofit where you are reusing the existing sockets.
3) How do I set the color temperature on the Satco S16430, and what options does it give?
The lamp is CCT selectable among 4000K, 5000K and 6500K, chosen on the lamp itself rather than ordered as separate part numbers. Output changes with the setting: 950 lumens, 1000 lumens and 900 lumens across the three temperatures. For property managers standardizing a building, one SKU covers all three color choices.
4) Can I put the Satco S16430 LED tube on a dimmer?
No. The 7W T8 is non-dimmable. Wire it to a straight switched line-voltage circuit; leaving it on an existing dimmer can cause flicker or early failure. If the space needs dimming, specify a dimmable LED tube instead.
5) Can this Satco LED tube go in a damp area like a parking garage or covered walkway?
It is rated for damp locations and listed for indoor use, so an enclosed damp interior space is within rating. It is not a wet location lamp, so skip direct exposure to rain or washdown. Burning position is universal, so the fixture can be mounted horizontal or vertical.
6) Will the Satco S16430 qualify for a DLC-based utility rebate?
No. The S16430 is not DLC approved, so it will not qualify under rebate programs that require a DLC listing. It is Title 24 compliant and FCC compliant, which matters for California projects and for electrical noise in occupied spaces. If a rebate drives the job, pick a DLC-listed tube.
7) What circuit load should I figure for a run of these Satco T8 LED tubes?
Each lamp draws 0.0583A at the low end of the voltage range down to 0.0253A at the high end, at 7 watts and 50/60Hz. That lets you load a large number of lamps per 120-277V branch circuit; size the circuit from the actual lamp count and your local code derating.
8) How long will these LED tubes last before maintenance has to go back up the ladder?
Rated average life is 50,000 hours. The lamp body uses a polycarbonate base with a frosted plastic lens rather than glass, so it is less prone to breakage during relamping in corridors, stairwells and back-of-house areas.
