Satco Lighting S16437 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I drop the Satco S16437 T8 LED into my existing fluorescent fixture without touching the wiring?
No. The S16437 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so the existing fluorescent ballast must be removed and line voltage wired directly to the sockets. It will not run on a fluorescent or LED ballast. If you want a lamp that works on the existing ballast untouched, you need a Type A plug-and-play tube instead.
2) Do I wire power to one end or both ends on this ballast bypass LED tube?
Either. The 26W S16437 is single or double ended, so the sockets can be wired with line and neutral to one end, or line to one end and neutral to the other. That flexibility matters on retrofits where you want to keep the existing non-shunted sockets at both ends rather than swapping them.
3) What color temperature do I get, and do I have to pick one when I order?
No separate color SKU to choose. The lamp is CCT selectable on the lamp itself between 4000K, 5000K and 6500K, so one part number covers neutral white through daylight. Output shifts slightly with the setting: 3650 lumens at 4000K, 3750 at 5000K, and 3600 at 6500K. Color rendering is 83 CRI across the board. For a facility standardizing stock, one lamp covers three color specs.
4) Can I put this on a dimmer in a conference room or classroom?
No. The 26W S16437 is not dimmable. Wire it to a straight on/off switch or a relay. If the space needs dimming, specify a dimmable linear LED lamp or a driver-based fixture instead.
5) Will this LED tube work on 277 volt lighting circuits in a commercial building?
Yes. The S16437 accepts 120V through 277V at 50/60Hz, so the same lamp works on residential 120V branch circuits and on 277V commercial lighting panels. Current draw runs 0.217A to 0.939A depending on supply voltage, which is what you use to figure lamps per circuit.
6) Is this T8 LED rated for a parking garage, cooler, or other damp location?
It carries a damp location rating and is listed for indoor use. Damp covers things like covered walkways and bathrooms, but not direct water exposure or wet locations, so an open-air or rain-exposed fixture needs a wet-rated lamp and enclosure.
7) Does the Satco S16437 qualify for a utility rebate program?
Not through DesignLights Consortium. The lamp is not DLC approved, so DLC-based utility incentives will not accept it. It is Title 24 compliant and FCC compliant, which matters for California energy code projects. If the rebate paperwork requires a DLC listing, you will need a DLC-qualified lamp.
8) Does it matter which way the lamp is rotated in the socket, or if the fixture is vertical?
No. Burning position is universal, and the lamp puts out a full 360 degree beam spread, so you can mount it horizontal, vertical, or at any rotation without losing output or life. Handy in strip fixtures where the socket orientation is whatever the last installer left.
9) Is this lamp glass or plastic, and will it shatter if a cart hits the fixture?
The lens is frosted plastic and the base is polycarbonate, so there is no glass tube to break. That is a practical plus in gyms, kitchens, warehouses, and corridors where impact is a real risk. The frosted lens also diffuses the diodes rather than leaving them as visible points.
