Satco Lighting S29406 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Satco S29406 PAR20 LED go in an enclosed or airtight recessed can?
Yes. The S29406 is an enclosed rated lamp, so sealed recessed cans and closed fixtures are fine. It is also wet location rated and listed for indoor or outdoor use, which covers soffit cans, covered entries and exterior landscape housings.
2) What incandescent PAR20 does a 6.5W LED replace?
The S29406 is a 50W incandescent equivalent, putting out 520 lumens at 6.5 watts. For a tenant space or lobby still running 50W halogen PAR20s, it is a one-for-one swap at about an eighth of the draw (0.054A).
3) Will 3000K match the other bulbs already in my building?
The S29406 is fixed at 3000K warm white, not color selectable, so every lamp out of the box matches. It pairs with existing 3000K lamps; if your other fixtures are 2700K the S29406 will read noticeably cooler, and against 4000K it will read warmer. Standardize a whole room on one temperature.
4) Is a 40 degree beam angle right for general room lighting or for accenting artwork?
40 degrees is a flood beam. It is the choice for general downlighting, corridor and retail wash, and for washing a wall or display case evenly. For a tight punch on a single piece of art or a merchandise feature you want a narrow spot in the 15 to 25 degree range instead, which is a different lamp.
5) Is 90 CRI worth it for retail or hospitality spaces?
The S29406 delivers 90 CRI, which is the threshold most retail, gallery, healthcare and hospitality specs call for because merchandise, skin tones and finishes render accurately. Standard 80 CRI lamps flatten reds in particular. If your drawing calls for 90+ CRI, this lamp meets it.
6) Does this PAR20 LED meet California Title 24 requirements?
Yes, the S29406 is California T24 listed. It is not DLC approved, so if your utility rebate program requires a DLC listing this lamp will not qualify for that program.
7) Can I install this bulb base-up in a recessed can or base-down in a pendant?
Burning position is universal, so base-up in recessed cans, base-down in pendants and horizontal in track or sign fixtures are all acceptable. No orientation restriction to work around.
8) Does the clear lens on the Satco S29406 cause glare in an open trim?
The lens is clear thermoplastic (PBT) over a silver housing, which keeps the 40 degree flood pattern crisp but means the diodes are visible in an open or shallow trim. In sight-line locations use a deeper baffle or regressed trim to cut the glare.
9) Can I use this bulb in a three-way lamp socket?
No. The S29406 is not a three-way lamp. In a three-way socket it will run at a single output level on one of the contacts rather than stepping through levels. For stepped output you need a dedicated three-way LED.
