Satco Lighting S29435 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use this LED PAR30 in an enclosed or airtight recessed fixture?
Yes. The lamp is enclosed rated, so a gasketed, airtight, or fully enclosed trim is a legitimate application. That is not true of every LED PAR, which is why a lot of LEDs fail early in sealed cans.
2) Is this PAR30 bulb rated for outdoor soffit and canopy lighting?
Wet location rated and listed for both indoor and outdoor use, so soffits, covered entries, canopies, and exterior recessed cans are fair game as long as the fixture itself is rated for the location.
3) Is a 60 degree beam angle right for general room lighting or is it too wide for accent work?
60 degrees is a flood spread, good for general downlighting, wall washing, and even coverage in corridors, lobbies, and open retail. It is too wide for pinpointing artwork or merchandise; for that you want a narrow spot beam instead. A 2700K color temperature with 90 CRI makes it a warm, color-accurate flood, which is what hospitality and residential common areas usually spec.
4) Will this bulb dim on my existing dimmers?
The lamp is dimmable, but it is an LED at 12.5 watts, so an old incandescent-style dimmer sized for several hundred watts of halogen often will not hold a stable low end. Use an LED-rated dimmer and keep the total connected load within the dimmer's stated LED minimum. It is not a three-way lamp, so it will not step through levels in a 3-way socket.
5) Does this Satco PAR30LN meet California Title 24 requirements?
It is California T24 listed, which matters if you are lighting a project in California where JA8-compliant lamps are required. It is not DLC listed, so if a utility rebate program requires DLC qualification this lamp will not qualify for it.
6) How long will these last before my maintenance crew is back on a ladder?
Average rated life is 25,000 hours. On a 12 hour a day common-area schedule that is roughly five and a half years of service, which is why property managers relamping tall lobbies or exterior soffits go this route instead of halogen PAR30s.
7) Can I mount this bulb base-up in a recessed can or base-down in a track head?
Burning position is universal, so base-up in a recessed downlight, base-down in a pendant, or horizontal in a track or wall-wash head are all acceptable. No orientation restriction to work around.
8) Will this lamp look the same as the other 2700K bulbs already installed in the building?
It is a fixed 2700K warm white and is not CCT selectable, so what you get is what is printed: no switch or jumper to set on site. If your other openings are lamped at 3000K or 4000K, this one will read noticeably warmer and yellower next to them. Standardize on one color temperature across a floor or corridor run.
9) Is 90 CRI worth specifying over a standard 80 CRI PAR30?
For retail merchandise, hospitality interiors, healthcare exam and patient areas, and anywhere skin tone or fabric color is judged, yes. This lamp is 90 CRI, which renders reds and flesh tones far closer to halogen than a typical 80 CRI LED. For a back-of-house corridor or a parking canopy, the extra color fidelity buys you nothing.
10) What does the bulb look like installed, and what is the lens made of?
Silver housing with a clear lens, so the diodes are visible through the face rather than diffused behind a frosted cover. The lens is thermoplastic PBT and the base is plastic, not metal, which keeps weight down and avoids galling in aluminum sockets.
