Satco Lighting S39188 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Satco S39188 PAR20 LED a turtle-friendly amber bulb for beachfront properties?
Yes. The Satco S39188 is a 6.5 watt PAR20 LED in amber, described as turtle friendly. Amber output is what coastal lighting rules aim for, since it keeps light off the blue end of the spectrum that disorients nesting sea turtles and hatchlings. It runs on 120 volt line power with a medium screw base.
2) How wide is the light spread from the S39188 amber PAR20?
It is a 40 degree beam, which is a flood pattern rather than a tight spot. On a walkway or stairwell at typical mounting heights that gives a broad pool of amber light, so you generally need fewer fixtures than with a narrow spot, and the low-angle spill stays limited compared to an open lamp.
3) Can I use amber turtle-friendly bulbs like the S39188 for general property lighting, or only near the beach?
They work anywhere you want low-impact light, not just oceanfront. Amber PAR20 LEDs are used for exterior walkways, patios, parking areas, and dark-sky sensitive sites because the amber color reduces glare and skyglow. Keep in mind the light is distinctly amber, not white, so it is not a substitute for interior task or color-critical lighting.
4) What wattage does the Satco S39188 draw, and is it a big change from a halogen PAR20?
It pulls 6.5 watts at 120 volt. Halogen PAR20 lamps in the same form factor typically ran 39 to 50 watts, so swapping to this LED cuts connected load substantially per fixture, which matters when a property manager is relamping dozens of exterior heads on one circuit.
5) How do I order the Satco amber PAR20 turtle-friendly lamp, and does it come in more than one version?
Order it by Satco part number S39188. It is a single configuration, a clear-lens 6.5 watt amber PAR20 with a 40 degree beam and medium base, so there are no color temperature or beam options to specify.
