Satco Lighting S9385 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Satco S9385 MR16 work in a standard 120V line voltage track head, or does it need a transformer?
The S9385 is a line voltage lamp: 120V, 60Hz, with a GU10 twist-lock bi-pin base. It goes straight into a 120V MR16 socket with no transformer. If your fixtures are low voltage 12V MR16 with a GU5.3 two-pin base running off a magnetic or electronic transformer, this is the wrong lamp for them.
2) Can I use this Satco GU10 LED in a fully enclosed recessed or shower fixture?
It is an enclosed rated lamp, so sealed recessed cans and closed glass fixtures are fine. Rating is damp location and indoor, which covers a shower trim or covered porch ceiling, but not direct exposure to rain or a wet location fixture. It also runs in any burning position, base up, base down or horizontal.
3) Is the 5000K color on this Satco MR16 going to match the 3000K lamps already in my building?
No. The S9385 is fixed 5000K, a cool daylight white, and it is not a CCT selectable lamp. Next to 2700K or 3000K warm lamps in the same room the difference is obvious. For a mixed retrofit, standardize a whole room or run at a time. Color rendering is 80 CRI, which is standard for general commercial and retail spaces.
4) Is the Satco S9385 GU10 lamp dimmable, and does it work on a three-way circuit?
Dimmable, yes. It is not a three-way lamp, so do not put it in a three-way socket expecting stepped output. For dimming, use an LED-rated dimmer sized for the connected load; at 6.5 watts per lamp, most line voltage dimmers need a minimum number of lamps on the circuit before they behave.
5) Does this Satco MR16 qualify for a DesignLights Consortium utility rebate?
No. The S9385 is not DLC approved, so it will not qualify for rebate programs that require a DLC listing. If the rebate application on your project depends on DLC, you need a lamp carrying that listing.
6) How long do these Satco GU10 LED MR16 lamps last before maintenance has to relamp?
Average rated life is 25,000 hours. At 12 hours a day that is over five years of service, which is why property managers and MRO buyers move track and recessed heads off halogen. The lamp is FCC compliant for electromagnetic interference, so it will not interfere with nearby electronics.
7) What does the Satco S9385 MR16 look like in the fixture, and is the lens clear or diffused?
White housing with an Array White lens. It is a lensed lamp, so you see a diffused white face rather than exposed LED chips, which cuts the glare and hot spotting you get from bare-diode MR16s in open trims and track heads.
8) Can I sell or install the Satco S9385 in California?
Lawful for sale in California per Satco's own designation on this lamp, so distributors and contractors working California jobs can stock and install it.
