Schlage 22-019 C 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will this Schlage 22-019 deadbolt cylinder fit a B250 or B400 deadbolt?
Compatibility runs to the Schlage B100, B250 and B400 E/B Primus deadbolts, the H series, and the S200. One exception to catch before you order: the H160 is excluded. If the lock on the door is an H160, this is the wrong cylinder for it and swapping it in will cost you a trip back.
2) Do I order the inside or the outside cylinder for a double cylinder deadbolt?
Both. The Schlage modular deadbolt cylinder is sold as an inside cylinder and as an outside cylinder, and a deadbolt keyed on each face takes one of each. A single cylinder deadbolt with a thumbturn on the interior needs only the outside version. Order both halves in the same finish so the two faces of the door match.
3) Can a Schlage 22-019 cylinder be keyed into my existing master key system?
Yes, and it arrives ready for it. The cylinder is 6-pin in the C keyway and supplied 0 bitted, meaning no combination is set at the factory, so your locksmith pins it to the bitting you already run instead of working around a factory key. Two keys come with it to cut. Schlage's modular platform also holds interchangeability across Everest 29, Primus XP and Classic key systems, so a building on more than one system can still stock the same cylinder body.
4) My exterior doors are thicker than standard. Does that change which Schlage cylinder I need?
The cylinder body doesn't change, the rear housing does. Schlage's modular cylinder is offered in six rear housing lengths to reach through thicker doors, so a heavy exterior slab is handled by specifying a longer rear housing rather than a different cylinder. That also means you can standardize on one cylinder across a building and vary only the housing.
5) Does a Schlage deadbolt cylinder have to be ordered by door hand?
No hand to call out. The cylinder is non-handed, so one part covers left and right hand doors and you don't need to survey the openings first. What you do specify is inside or outside, the finish, and the keyway.
6) Will this cylinder match the satin chrome hardware already on my other doors?
626 satin chrome is one of the three finishes offered, alongside 613 satin bronze oil rubbed and 605 bright brass. 626 is the standard commercial finish on levers, closers and exit hardware, so on a building already running it the cylinder face blends in. Pick 613 or 605 where the entrance is trimmed in oil rubbed bronze or brass.
7) Can a Schlage modular cylinder be converted into a rim or mortise cylinder later?
That is the point of the modular design. Changing the tailpiece, cam or rear housing converts the same cylinder between deadbolt, mortise, rim and key-in-lever or key-in-knob use, which is how a locksmith carries one cylinder on the truck instead of four. If you would rather buy a purpose-built rim cylinder outright, the Corbin Russwin 3070 is a 6-pin rim cylinder housing with a 1-7/8 inch tailpiece.
8) I need a Schlage C keyway cylinder for a mortise lock, not a deadbolt. What do I order?
Different part. A deadbolt cylinder will not serve a mortise lock case, which needs a threaded mortise cylinder driving a cam. The Detex MC65 is a 1-1/8 inch 6-pin mortise cylinder cut to the Schlage C keyway, so it stays on the same key system as your deadbolts. For Schlage L9000 mortise locks running large format interchangeable cores, the Corbin Russwin 1080 is a 1-1/2 inch 6-pin LFIC mortise cylinder with the A01 Schlage L cam.
9) Is the Schlage 22-019 an interchangeable core cylinder?
No. It is a conventional pin tumbler cylinder that a locksmith pins by hand, built up from a tailpiece, cam and rear housing, not a core that pulls out with a control key. If your facility is standardized on interchangeable cores so maintenance can rekey without disassembly, the BEST 1C is a standard 5-pin core and the BEST 1CB is a Peaks 150 series interchangeable core cylinder.
10) Aluminum storefront door with an Adams Rite MS1847 deadlock. Will the 22-019 work in that stile?
The Schlage 22-019 deadbolt cylinder with housing is built for Schlage deadbolt bodies, listed as B100, B250, B400 E/B Primus, H except H160, and S200, so it is not the part that serves an MS1847. Adams Rite makes hardware aimed straight at that opening: the 4024 cylinder pull mounts with a trim plate and the 4025 five pin tumbler cylinder pull mounts with through-screws, both designed for use with the Adams Rite MS1847 deadlock or deadlatch. On a wood door running the Adams Rite 5017 deadlock or deadlatch, the 4026 five pin tumbler cylinder pull is the corresponding part. Where the stile is prepped for a threaded mortise cylinder rather than a pull, the Adams Rite 4036 is a Grade 1 five-pin mortise cylinder with a 1/2 inch minimum door thickness.
11) We are standardizing cylinders across a portfolio of buildings. Is this a commercial cylinder?
Commercial, and built for it in brass and stainless steel. Three things make it workable as a portfolio standard: it is non-handed so no opening survey is needed, it covers the Schlage B100, B250, B400 E/B Primus, H and S200 deadbolts from one part number, and it is supplied 0 bitted so an entire order can be pinned to one master key system at once rather than arriving on assorted factory keys.
12) I am replacing the key cylinder in a Schlage B250 deadbolt. Does the Schlage 22-019 drop in, and how is the Kaba Ilco 1549 different?
The Schlage 22-019 deadbolt cylinder with housing is a 6-pin, non-handed cylinder listed as compatible with Schlage B100, B250, B400 E/B Primus deadbolts, H series except H160, and S200, so a B250 sits inside the bodies it is built for. It comes 0-bitted in the C keyway with two keys, which lets a locksmith pin it to a key system already running on the property. The Kaba Ilco 1549 is a key-in-deadbolt cylinder in the 1549 Series carrying a deadbolt function, supplied as a standalone replacement cylinder rather than as a Schlage modular front-and-rear housing assembly. The practical difference is how the door ends up keyed: the 22-019 keeps the deadbolt on the Schlage C keyway and the Schlage modular parts, while the 1549 puts that door on the Ilco cylinder's own arrangement.
13) The opening has a mortise lock body, not a deadbolt. What cylinder goes there instead of the 22-019?
The Schlage 22-019 is supplied as a deadbolt cylinder with housing, matched to Schlage B100, B250, B400 E/B Primus, H except H160, and S200 deadbolt bodies. A mortise case takes a threaded mortise cylinder driven by a cam. The Detex MC65 is a mortise cylinder cut for the Schlage C keyway at 1-1/8 inch and 6-pin, so it can be keyed into the same Schlage C system the deadbolts run on. If the mortise body is Corbin Russwin, the 1000 Grade 1 series mortise cylinder is 1-1/2 inch with an A02 straight cam, and the 1070 Grade 1 series is a 1-1/4 inch 6-pin mortise housing with an A01 cloverleaf cam. Cam style has to match the lock case, so confirm which cam the mortise lock calls for before you order length.
14) I need a keyed cylinder for a rim exit device. Can the 22-019 be built into a rim cylinder, or should I order a rim housing outright?
The Schlage 22-019 arrives configured as a deadbolt cylinder with housing, 6-pin in the C keyway. The Schlage modular platform it is part of converts between mortise, rim, and key-in-lever or key-in-knob types by changing the tailpiece, cam, or rear housing, with six rear housing lengths available for thicker doors, so the same plug can be rebuilt into a rim cylinder with the correct rim components on hand. If you would rather buy the rim configuration already assembled, the Corbin Russwin 3070 is a 6-pin rim cylinder housing with a 1-7/8 inch tailpiece. Tailpiece length is the deciding dimension on a rim device, since it has to reach the chassis through the door thickness, so measure the door before choosing between converting a modular cylinder and ordering a fixed rim housing.
15) We turn units and rekey constantly. Is there a cylinder that rekeys without taking the lock apart, and how does that compare to the 22-019?
The Schlage 22-019 is a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the C keyway, shipped 0-bitted with two keys, so a key change means repinning the plug at the bench or on the door. Interchangeable core hardware handles turnover a different way: the BEST 1C Series standard 5-pin cylinder core and the BEST Peaks 1CB 150 Series interchangeable core cylinder are pulled with a control key and swapped for a freshly pinned core, and the BEST 1CDF is a drill resistant patented interchangeable core in 7-pin brass, also 150 Series. The condition on going that route is that the lock bodies have to be prepped to take a core; the 22-019 works with the Schlage deadbolt bodies it is built for, B100, B250, B400 E/B Primus, H except H160, and S200, using Schlage modular front and rear housings.
16) Someone put a BEST 12E rim cylinder on the order for a door that has to lock with a key. Does that do the same job as the 22-019?
No, those two parts do different work. The BEST 12E Series is a dummy rim cylinder at 1-5/32 inch diameter, so it occupies the cylinder hole and finishes the face of the door without operating anything. The Schlage 22-019 is a keyed deadbolt cylinder with housing, 6-pin in the C keyway, supplied with two keys and built in brass and stainless steel, and it operates the bolt on Schlage B100, B250, B400 E/B Primus, H except H160, and S200 deadbolts. Put the 12E where an opening needs the appearance of a cylinder and no key function, such as an inactive leaf or a covered prep, and the 22-019 where the door actually has to be locked and unlocked with a key.
17) Can I get the lever locks and the deadbolts on one key if the levers are Falcon?
Not on the same key blank, and that is a keyway question rather than a fitment one. The Schlage 22-019 is a 6-pin cylinder in the Schlage C keyway, shipped 0-bitted with two keys, and the modular platform behind it accepts any Schlage keyway and supports interchangeability between Everest 29, Primus XP, and Classic key systems. The Falcon A23161-05 G is a key-in-lever cylinder in the RU/T Series, 6-pin in the G keyway, keyed different and supplied with two cut keys, and G is a Falcon keyway, so a Falcon lever cylinder and a Schlage C deadbolt cylinder take different blanks. Getting the suite onto one key means bringing the lever cylinders onto the same keyway family as the deadbolts. Where the lever and knob cylinders are being changed out anyway, the Kaba Ilco 1539 Series is a universal key-in-knob and lever cylinder, the 1599 Series is a key-in-knob replacement cylinder, and the 1579 Series knob and lever cylinder is the one made for Sargent hardware.
18) Our multi-family front doors have Emtek handlesets and a few Kwikset deadbolts. Is the 22-019 the cylinder for those?
The Schlage 22-019 is a commercial cylinder matched to Schlage deadbolt bodies, listed as B100, B250, B400 E/B Primus, H except H160, and S200, so Emtek and Kwikset hardware calls for a different part. On the Emtek side, the Emtek CY4 is that brand's own cylinder, the Medeco 1065140 is a 5-pin retrofit cylinder for the Arrow JL interconnected lock and the Emtek handleset and deadbolt outside cylinder, and the Medeco 1065244 is a 5-pin rim lazy motion cylinder supplied with an Emtek tailpiece. For a Kwikset single cylinder deadbolt, the Medeco 1012040 is a 6-pin lazy motion rim cylinder made for that application, and the Medeco 1075127 is a 5-pin rim type lazy motion single cylinder for handlesets and deadbolts. Where a building has a mix, the deciding factor is which lock body is on each door, since the tailpiece and cylinder format follow the body.
19) We are standardizing keying across a building that has Schlage deadbolts and Schlage L9000 mortise locks. Does one cylinder cover both?
They take two different cylinders. The Schlage 22-019 covers the deadbolt side as a 6-pin, non-handed cylinder in the C keyway with two keys, built for Schlage B100, B250, B400 E/B Primus, H except H160, and S200 bodies. An L9000 mortise case needs a threaded mortise cylinder with the right cam, and the Corbin Russwin 1080 Grade 1 series is a 1-1/2 inch LFIC mortise cylinder, 6-pin, made for Schlage L9000 mortise locks with an A01 Schlage L cam. Worth settling before the keying order goes in: that pairing puts the mortise openings on large format interchangeable core while the deadbolts stay on conventional Schlage modular cylinders, which is two rekeying procedures for one facility rather than one.
