Delayed pneumatic action holds the contact for an adjustable 0 to 60 seconds, useful when you need a mag lock to stay released long enough for someone to clear the opening without a separate timer. Alternate action is maintained, so one press latches it on and the next press releases it, which suits holding a door unlocked during business hours.
3) Can I get a Schlage 621 button with DPDT contacts and delayed action together?
No. The double pole, double throw switch option is not available with the delayed action option, so you pick one or the other. If you need two independent circuits switched (say releasing a lock and signalling an alarm shunt at the same time), order DPDT and handle the time delay in the power supply or relay instead.
4) I need a bigger exit button that can be hit with an elbow or a cart - is the 621RD EX the right one?
The 621RD EX uses a 1-1/4 inch button, which is sized for a hand press. Within the same Schlage 620 family, the 623 steps up to a 1-5/8 inch mushroom button and the 625 to a 2-3/4 inch mushroom button, both on a stainless steel faceplate with a translucent cone - those are the ones to specify for gloved hands, carts, or high-traffic service corridors. For abuse-prone openings, the 631 uses a 1-1/4 inch metal button on an extreme-duty zinc faceplate with a metal cone.
5) Can I substitute the standard 621RD EX where the spec calls for a timed exit button?
No - the standard configuration is a momentary button rated 3A at 30 VDC, so the contact closes only while pressed. For a timed release, order the delayed pneumatic action version, adjustable 0 to 60 seconds with form Z contacts at 3A and 30 VDC. If the spec instead wants the button to latch on until pressed again, the alternate action maintained version is the one. Note that the DPDT double pole double throw option cannot be combined with delayed action.
6) What is another illuminated exit pushbutton I could use instead of the Schlage 621?
