Other option choices, like the anti-tamper switch or the dual LED version, do not include a cylinder, so plan to supply your own mortise cylinder on those.
3) Can I mount this Schlage keyswitch outdoors?
There is a weather resistant cover option, but it fits a 1-1/8 inch cylinder only and is offered in the single gang size. It is not available with the narrow stile plate, the L2 dual LED configuration, or special finishes. So an exterior single gang mount works; an exterior narrow stile jamb mount with a cover does not.
4) What voltage and current can a Schlage 650 Series keyswitch handle?
The standard keyswitch is rated 5 amps at 30 VDC with SPDT contacts. The 653-141 is the DPDT maintained version. If you want status indication at the switch, the two LED option (red/green) runs on dual voltage 12 or 24 VDC, which covers most mag lock and electric strike power supplies. 5) My opening is an aluminum storefront narrow stile - can I use the BEA jamb switch plates there?

If the site is keyed to Schlage Everest, the 653-141 keeps that; if you only need a tamper-resistant keyed plate on its own key, the BEA unit covers it.
9) Should I use a keyswitch or a push plate for door release?
A keyswitch restricts who can operate the door, which is why it is used for after-hours release, mag lock bypass, and overriding an automatic operator. A push plate is open to anyone who walks up.
