CO-200 OVERVIEW
The CO Series offers ideal solutions for customers seeking the added security and convenience of electronic access control without the cost or complexity of a fully networked system.
The CO-200 steps up significantly in functionality from CO-100 keypad programmable locks. It can be manually or computer programmed with downloads occurring at the lock via the SUS mobile app on a compatible Android device. Credential use can include 3-6 digit PIN, proximity and magnetic stripe cards; dual authentication card + PIN readers are available for extra security. More importantly, this lock offers up to 2000 users with audit capability to note the who, where and when of building or room access.
CO-200 can work in the same offline system as AD-200, CO-220 and CT5000. They can be manually programmed for basic use or managed with PC-based Schlage Express™ software. Select PACS alliance members also offer access control solutions for the CO-200 with added capability that can include lock schedules and audits. Features and capabilities will vary by system; please visit the Software Management tab for additional details.

Schlage Electronics CO-200-MS-50-PRK-RHO-626-P – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Schlage CO-200 electronic mortise lock fit a 1-3/4 inch door?
Yes, and that is the only thickness it is built for. The CO-200 mortise lock is specified at 1-3/4 inches, which is the standard commercial door thickness. If your openings are thinner or thicker, this is not the lock, and options like the TownSteel XCE-2000 (1-3/4 to 2 inches) or the SDC E75 (1-3/4 to 2-1/8 inches) cover a wider range.
2) Does the Schlage CO-200 come with a cylinder for key override?
No cylinder ships with it. You order the cylinder prep and supply the core separately. The choices are B for 7-pin SFIC (Schlage, Falcon and competitive OEM cores), J for Schlage 6-pin FSIC, L for Schlage or Falcon 6-pin key-in-lever, or P for a Schlage standard conventional cylinder. Pick the one that matches the keyway your building is already keyed to so the override key works on the same system.
3) What does the office function do on the CO-200 mortise lock?
Office function means the lever can be left in an unlocked, passage state during business hours and secured when you want credential-only entry. On the CO-200 that pairs with the electronics, so a valid PIN or prox card retracts the latch when the opening is secure. Classroom/storeroom and privacy functions exist in the CO-200 line if office is not the behavior you need.
4) Do I need to specify handing when ordering a CO-200 mortise lock?
Handing is a required selection: field reversible, RH, LH, RHR or LHR. The lock itself is listed as field reversible, so the mechanism can be handed on site, but the order still asks you to declare the opening. If you are stocking spares across a mixed building, field reversible is the one to hold.
5) Will the CO-200 latch into the strike already in my frame?
It ships with a 1-1/8 x 2-1/4 inch square corner deadlatch and a 1-3/16 inch lip ANSI strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches, without a box. That is the standard ANSI frame cutout, so if your existing frames are prepped ANSI you can usually reuse the prep. Backset is 2-3/4 inches, the common commercial backset. Square corner latch face, so a radius corner prep will need filing or a new frame plate.
6) What ratings does the CO-200 carry for a fire rated or ADA opening?
Grade 1, ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000 for the mortise configuration, UL 10C for fire door use, UL 294 for access control, UL Canada, FCC Part 15 and ADA. The 70 function is also A156.25 full outdoor. That combination is what most institutional specs ask for on a fire rated corridor or classroom door.
7) Is a mortise CO-200 worth it over a cylindrical electronic lock?
Mortise means a pocket cut into the door edge rather than a 2-1/8 inch bore, so it suits heavy traffic commercial openings and doors already prepped for mortise hardware. Retrofitting a cylindrical door to mortise is a door replacement in practice. If your doors are bored for cylindrical hardware, look at cylindrical electronic locks such as the TownSteel XCE-2000 or the Accentra nexTouch NTB613 instead.
8) What is the closest Grade 1 standalone electronic alternative to the Schlage CO-200 office function lock if I need a card credential rather than a keypad only?
The Schlage CO-200 office function lock is a Grade 1 battery-powered standalone electronic lock with a proximity and keypad reader, so it accepts both a card and a PIN at the same opening. If you want another Grade 1 standalone electronic lock that reads cards, the TownSteel FCE-2000 Series is a Grade 1 standalone motorized cylindrical lockset with RFID technology, and the TownSteel FCE-4000 Series is an RFID electronic cylindrical lockset. Both of those TownSteel units are classroom function, so they suit an opening you want locked down from the outside at all times rather than an office door that can be left in a passage state.
9) I only need PIN entry with an audit trail, not cards. What is simpler than a Schlage CO-200?
The Schlage CO-200 office lock carries a proximity and keypad reader so it can read cards, PINs, or both together. If you never plan to issue cards, the Alarm Lock T3 DL3075 is an electronic cylindrical lock with audit trail and keypad access and is Grade 1, which covers keypad entry with a record of who came and went. The Alarm Lock Trilogy T2 DL2700 is also Grade 1 with a digital keypad and 100 user codes, a much smaller population than the 2,000 users the CO-200 holds. Note the DL2700 is specified for 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch doors while the CO-200 is built for a 1-3/4 inch door.
10) My opening needs a mechanical office lock, not electronics. What replaces a Schlage CO-200 office function?
The CO-200 office function is an electronic, battery-operated Grade 1 lock. For the same office behavior without any electronics or batteries, the Dorma C150 is a Grade 1 heavy-duty cylindrical lock in entry/office function with a 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch door thickness range. The Marks USA 195RAB is also a Grade 1 entry/office clutched lever lockset supplied less core. Either gives you the office function on a key rather than a credential, so there is no user database and no audit trail.
11) The CO-200 office function will not work for my classroom doors. What electronic lock should I use instead?
The Schlage CO-200 here is built in office function, which is not what most school districts want on a classroom door. For that opening, the TownSteel XCE-2000 Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty electronic cylindrical lockset with keypad in classroom function, and the TownSteel XCE-9000 Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty electronic classroom intruder cylindrical lockset with keypad for lockdown from inside the room. Both are listed for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, which covers the same 1-3/4 inch door the CO-200 is built for.
12) What electronic lock should I use if the door is wired to an access control panel instead of standalone?
The Schlage CO-200 is a standalone lock, battery powered on four AA cells, with programming done at the door. If the opening is already wired back to a panel, the SDC Electra 7200 Series is a solenoid controlled cylindrical lock running on dual voltage 12/24VDC for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, which takes its unlock command from the panel rather than from an onboard credential list. The SDC E75 Series is the battery-powered keypad alternative in that line for 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/8 inch doors.
13) How many users and how much audit history does the CO-200 hold?
Up to 2,000 users with an audit trail of up to 2,000 events, so you can pull who entered and when. Credentials can be a 3 to 6 digit PIN, proximity or magnetic stripe card, and with a keypad plus card reader you can require card plus PIN for dual authentication. That user count is well above simpler keypad locks such as the Alarm Lock Trilogy T2 DL2700, which holds 100 user codes.
14) How do you program a Schlage CO-200, and does it need software?
Two ways. You can program it manually at the lock for basic use, or manage it with PC-based Schlage Express software and push the data to the lock with the Schlage Utility Software mobile app on a compatible Android device plus an SUS-A cable. Holidays and time zones are supported for scheduled auto lock and unlock. Budget for the SUS-A cable and an Android device if you plan to manage more than a couple of openings.
15) Can I mix CO-200 locks with AD-200 or CO-220 locks in the same system?
Yes. The CO-200 runs in the same offline system as the AD-200, CO-220 and CT5000, so a facility already standardized on Schlage offline hardware can add these without a second management platform. It also reads the same credential used at the building perimeter, so staff carry one card.
16) What is the difference between the CO-100 and the CO-200?
The CO-100 is keypad programmable only. The CO-200 adds computer programming, proximity and magnetic stripe credentials, dual authentication with card plus PIN, up to 2,000 users and a full audit trail. If you need to know who opened a door and when, or you want to issue cards rather than codes, the CO-200 is the step up.
17) Is the Kwikset SmartCode 912TNL a substitute for a Schlage CO-200?
No. The Schlage CO-200 is a commercial Grade 1 heavy duty electronic lock with a proximity and keypad reader, holding up to 2,000 users with a 2,000 event audit trail. The Kwikset 912TNL ZW500 SmartCode Tustin lever is a Z-Wave electronic lever in keyed one side function for 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors. It is a residential-style smart lever managed through a home automation hub, not a credential-based commercial access control lock, so it will not carry a facility credential program or a Grade 1 commercial spec on a drawing.
18) I need an electronic lock that takes my small format interchangeable core. How does that compare to the CO-200?
The Schlage CO-200 is ordered less cylinder in several preps, including B for 7 pin SFIC accepting Schlage, Falcon and competitive OEM cores, J for Schlage 6 pin FSIC, and L for Schlage or Falcon 6 pin key-in-lever, with P available as a Schlage standard conventional cylinder. If you want a simpler keypad lock on the same core program, the Alarm Lock Trilogy T2 DL2700 is a Grade 1 standalone electronic cylindrical entrance lock that is IC/SFIC compatible, and the BEST 9KZ EZ Series is an electronic keypad cylindrical lock with key override. The tradeoff is card credentials and the CO-200 audit capability.
19) Is the Accentra nexTouch NTB613 an alternative to the Schlage CO-200?
The Accentra nexTouch NTB613 is a Grade 1 cylindrical keypad lock with pushbutton entry, so it matches the CO-200 on Grade 1 and on standalone keypad entry. The difference is credential range and record keeping: the CO-200 reads proximity cards as well as PIN and stores up to 2,000 users with a 2,000 event audit trail, programmable from Schlage Express software or the SUS mobile app. Choose the nexTouch if pushbutton entry alone covers the opening, and the CO-200 if the same badge used at the building perimeter has to work at this door.
20) Can a mechanical pushbutton Lockey be used instead of a Schlage CO-200 on an office door?
Only if you are willing to give up per-user credentials. The Schlage CO-200 office lock is a Grade 1 commercial electronic lock storing up to 2,000 individual users with an audit trail. The Lockey 1600 is a heavy duty mechanical keyless knob lock with adjustable backset for 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch doors, and the Lockey 2830 is a mechanical pushbutton keyless knob lock with auto-locking passage function over the same thickness range. Both work on a single shared combination with no batteries and no record of entry, which suits a back-of-house door far better than a managed office opening.
21) What do I use on a restroom or dorm room door where the CO-200 office function is wrong?
The CO-200 covered here is office function, which is not a privacy lock. For an electronic privacy opening, the Alarm Lock Trilogy 4100 is a Grade 1 electronic cylindrical lock in privacy function with a keypad, listed for 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch doors, and the CENTRIOS CEB100 Series is a Grade 1 smart Bluetooth cylindrical lock in privacy function. If no electronics are wanted at all, the Cal-Royal CAL20 is a Grade 1 extra heavy duty privacy lock for 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors.
22) Is a Dorma C853 or Stanley QCL150 entry lever equivalent to the Schlage CO-200?
They are keyed mechanical locksets, not credential locks, so they are not equivalent. The Dorma C853 is a Grade 1 entry keyed single cylinder lever lockset for 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors, and the Stanley QCL150 is an entrance lever supplied less cylinder with a square 2-3/4 inch backset latch and a 4-7/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch ASA strike, rated Grade 2. The CO-200 shares the 2-3/4 inch backset and an ANSI strike at 4-7/8 inches, so the door prep is familiar, but it adds proximity and keypad credentials, battery power, and up to 2,000 users that a keyed lever cannot provide.
23) What lever styles and finishes can I get on the Schlage CO-200?
Six lever designs: Athens, Latitude, Longitude, Rhodes, Sparta and Tubular. Finishes run 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 643E aged bronze. Match the lever design to the mechanical Schlage levers already in the building so the electronic openings do not stand out, and note the description also references a 626AM satin chrome antimicrobial option for healthcare work.
24) I am standardizing a floor and only some doors need credentials. What pairs with the CO-200 on the non-credential openings?
The CO-200 office function covers the doors that need proximity or PIN credentials with audit. For the passage and closet doors on the same floor, the Marks USA 195N is a Grade 1 Survivor Series passage lever lockset that is ADA compliant, and the Cal-Royal CAL30 is a Grade 1 extra heavy duty passage lockset for 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors. For a storeroom door on a key, the Marks USA 175RF is a Grade 2 storeroom clutched lever with small format IC prep, less core, on a 2-3/4 inch backset with an ANSI strike, matching the CO-200 backset.
25) Does the Alarm Lock DL5200 do the same job as a Schlage CO-200 on a double-sided opening?
They serve different needs. The Alarm Lock DL5200 is a double-sided electronic cylindrical lock with 100 user capacity and battery operation, listed for 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch doors, so it controls entry from both faces of the opening. The Schlage CO-200 office lock reads proximity cards and PINs from the outside and holds up to 2,000 users with audit. Pick the DL5200 when both sides of the door must be secured and a 100 user population is enough; pick the CO-200 when the credential count, card support, and Grade 1 heavy duty commercial rating drive the spec.
26) Is a Lockey E985 or E995 keypad lever a fit where a CO-200 is specified?
Not on a 1-3/4 inch commercial door running a badge program. The Lockey E985 and E995 are electronic keypad lever locks with remote control, the E985 adding key override, and both are listed for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. The Schlage CO-200 is a Grade 1 heavy duty commercial lock for a 1-3/4 inch door with a proximity and keypad reader, field reversible handing, and cylinder preps for SFIC, FSIC, key-in-lever or a Schlage conventional cylinder. Use the Lockey where a remote and a code on a light commercial door is the whole requirement.
