CO-200 OVERVIEW
The CO Series offers ideal solutions for customers seeking the added security and convenience of electronic access control without the cost or complexity of a fully networked system.
The CO-200 steps up significantly in functionality from CO-100 keypad programmable locks. It can be manually or computer programmed with downloads occurring at the lock via the SUS mobile app on a compatible Android device. Credential use can include 3-6 digit PIN, proximity and magnetic stripe cards; dual authentication card + PIN readers are available for extra security. More importantly, this lock offers up to 2000 users with audit capability to note the who, where and when of building or room access.
CO-200 can work in the same offline system as AD-200, CO-220 and CT5000. They can be manually programmed for basic use or managed with PC-based Schlage Express™ software. Select PACS alliance members also offer access control solutions for the CO-200 with added capability that can include lock schedules and audits. Features and capabilities will vary by system; please visit the Software Management tab for additional details.

Schlage Electronics CO-200-MS-40-PR-RHO-626-P – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I have to specify handing when ordering a Schlage CO-200 lock?
Handing is a required choice on the order. You can take it field reversible, or specify RH, LH, RHR or LHR outright. Field reversible is the safer pick when you're stocking spares for a building with mixed swings, since one lock covers whichever opening it lands on.
2) Does the Schlage CO-200 come with a cylinder, or do I key it myself?
Three of the four cylinder choices ship less cylinder so your locksmith supplies the core: B for 7-pin SFIC (Schlage, Falcon and competitive OEM cores), J for Schlage 6-pin FSIC, and L for Schlage or Falcon 6-pin key-in-lever. The fourth, P, comes with a Schlage standard conventional cylinder. If the building is already on an SFIC master system, B lets you drop your existing core straight in.
3) Do I need a networked access control system to run a Schlage CO-200?
No, the CO-200 is a standalone lock. It runs on four AA batteries with no wiring to the opening, and you program it either at the keypad by hand or by pushing a file down from the Schlage Utility Software mobile app on an Android device with an SUS-A cable. For a larger site you can manage it from PC-based Schlage Express software, and it shares an offline system with the AD-200, CO-220 and CT5000. That's the trade-off against a wired online system: no head end, no panels, no cable pulls, but you go to the door to collect audits and push changes.
4) Will the Schlage CO-200 proximity reader read the same badge we use on the building entrance?
The CO-200 in proximity reader form works with the same credential carried on the building perimeter, which is the point of putting it on interior doors: one badge, no second card for staff. Credential options across the CO-200 range also include 3 to 6 digit PINs and magnetic stripe cards, and a keypad plus card reader version gives you dual authentication where you need two factors on a sensitive room.
5) Is the Schlage CO-200 rated for a fire door?
UL 10C listed, along with UL 294 for access control, UL Canada, FCC Part 15 and ADA. It's ANSI/BHMA Grade 1, and in mortise form meets or exceeds ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000 Grade 1. The 70 function carries ANSI/BHMA A156.25 full outdoor. For an institutional spec sheet that's the block of listings a code official will ask for.
6) What is the closest alternative to the Schlage CO-200 electronic mortise lock if the door needs a cylindrical chassis instead of a mortise pocket?
The CO-200 covered here is a mortise lock type running on AA (4) batteries as a standalone unit with a proximity reader. If the door is prepped for a cylindrical chassis rather than a mortise pocket, the TownSteel FCE-2000 Series is a Grade 1 standalone motorized cylindrical lockset with RFID technology fitted to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the TownSteel XCE-2000 Series is an electronic cylindrical lockset with a keypad rated Grade 1 for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors. Both stay in Grade 1 heavy duty territory, the same grade and duty level the CO-200 carries, so the change is the chassis prep in the door and the credential type, not the strength class.
7) Which credential-reading lock should be used instead of the Schlage CO-200 proximity version when the users carry no cards and everything has to run off a PIN?
The CO-200 build described here is the proximity reader version. For an opening where entry is by keypad only, the Alarm Lock Trilogy T2 DL2700 is a Grade 1 standalone electronic cylindrical lock with a digital keypad, 100 user codes, and IC/SFIC compatibility for 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch doors, and the Accentra nexTouch NTB613 is a Grade 1 cylindrical keypad lock with pushbutton entry. The TownSteel XCE-2000 Series is a keypad electronic cylindrical lockset in Grade 1 for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors. Note the user capacity difference: the CO-200 stores up to 2,000 users with an audit trail of up to 2,000 events, where the DL2700 is a 100 user code lock.
8) For a classroom or lockdown opening, is the Schlage CO-200 office function the right pick or is there a better electronic lock?
The CO-200 build here is set up as an office function lock. Where the requirement is classroom or intruder lockdown behavior, the TownSteel FCE-4000 Series is an RFID electronic intruder classroom cylindrical lockset in Grade 1 heavy duty for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the TownSteel XCE-9000 Series is an electronic classroom intruder cylindrical lockset with a keypad, Grade 1 heavy duty for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors. The FCE-2000 Series is also a Grade 1 classroom function standalone motorized lockset with RFID for 1-3/4 inch doors, which is the nearest match to the CO-200 credential style since the CO-200 reads proximity.
9) The Schlage CO-200 is listed for 1-3/4 inch doors. What electronic lock covers a thinner or thicker door?
The CO-200 door thickness is 1-3/4 inch. For a door outside that, the Alarm Lock Trilogy T2 DL2700 and the Trilogy 4100 both cover 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch, and the Alarm Lock DL5200 double-sided electronic cylindrical lock covers the same 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch band. Going thicker, the SDC E75 Series battery-powered electronic cylindrical lockset with keypad access control covers 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/8 inch, and the TownSteel XCE-2000 Series covers 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch. The Lockey E985 and E995 electronic keypad lever locks cover 1 3/8 inch to 1 3/4 inch at the thin end.
10) Which electronic locks look like a substitute for the Schlage CO-200 but are not, because they need wiring or a home automation hub?
The CO-200 is battery operated on AA (4) cells with a standalone connection type, meaning no wiring pulled to the opening and no head-end. Two locks that read as peers but do not behave that way: the SDC Electra 7200 Series is a solenoid controlled cylindrical lock with dual voltage 12/24VDC for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, so it needs power run to the door and an access control system to release it; and the Kwikset 912TNL ZW500 SmartCode electronic Tustin lever uses Z-Wave technology in a keyed one side function for 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors, which is a residential hub protocol rather than a standalone commercial credential lock. The CO-200 is specified for commercial use.
11) If the room needs privacy but the facility still wants electronic control, what compares to the Schlage CO-200 privacy build?
The CO-200 offers classroom/storeroom, office and privacy functions with an occupancy indication programmable option on privacy function locks. Two electronic peers carry a privacy function: the Alarm Lock Trilogy 4100 is a Grade 1 electronic cylindrical lock with privacy function and keypad for 1-5/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch doors, and the CENTRIOS CEB100 Series is a Grade 1 smart Bluetooth cylindrical lock in privacy function. The Trilogy 4100 and CEB100 are cylindrical chassis, so confirm the door prep before swapping either against a mortise pocket, since the CO-200 here is a mortise lock type.
12) How many users and what kind of audit trail does the Schlage CO-200 hold?
Up to 2,000 users and an audit trail of up to 2,000 events, so you can see who opened the door and when. That user count is what separates it from simpler keypad locks; the Alarm Lock Trilogy T2 DL2700, for example, is a 100 user code lock. For a mid-size facility standardizing on one credential, 2,000 users usually means the whole staff roster fits without pruning.
13) How often will I be changing batteries in a Schlage CO-200?
Four AA cells give up to two years of service, and the lock carries a low battery status indicator so maintenance sees it coming rather than getting a call about a dead door. Across a fleet of openings that's the number that decides whether a battery lock is practical for you versus running power to the door.
14) What lever styles and finishes can I get on the Schlage CO-200 to match the rest of my doors?
Six lever designs, Athens, Latitude, Longitude, Rhodes, Sparta and Tubular, in seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 643E aged bronze. If your building is standardized on Schlage 626 satin chrome with Rhodes levers, the electronic opening can be made to look like every mechanical door beside it.
15) Is the Schlage CO-200 heavy duty enough for a school or hospital corridor door?
Grade 1, heavy duty, and catalogued for commercial use, which is the tier specified for high traffic institutional openings. Grade 1 is the top ANSI/BHMA operational tier, above the Grade 2 hardware common in light commercial and multi-family interiors. Among the electronic alternatives ZenSupply carries, the TownSteel FCE-2000 and XCE-2000 Series are also Grade 1 heavy duty if you're comparing.
16) What is a good alternative to the Schlage CO-200 if I want a keypad instead of a card reader?
Staying inside the CO Series, the CO-100 is the keypad programmable model, though it steps down in functionality from the CO-200. Across other brands ZenSupply stocks, the TownSteel XCE-2000 Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty electronic lockset with a keypad for 1-3/4 to 2 inch doors, and the Alarm Lock Trilogy T3 offers keypad access with an audit trail. Pick the reader to match how your people already get in the building: badge holders want proximity, a tenant space with no card program wants a PIN.
17) Can the Schlage CO-200 lock and unlock on a schedule for business hours?
Yes, it supports holidays and time zones so the door can auto unlock in the morning and relock at close without anyone touching it. That handles the usual office or clinic pattern of free access during posted hours and credential only after. Programmed lock schedules and audits through select PACS alliance access control solutions add further capability on top.
18) Is there a simpler lock than the Schlage CO-200 for a bed or bath door that only needs privacy, with no credentials or audit trail?
The CO-200 is an electronic office function lock with a proximity reader and up to 2,000 users with audit capability, which is more system than a plain privacy opening needs. For a mechanical privacy door, the Cal-Royal CAL20 is a Grade 1 extra heavy duty privacy lock in the Calypso Series fitting 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors, and the Marks USA 195N is a Grade 1 Survivor Series passage lever that is ADA compliant where the door only needs to latch. The Orca Hardware OCL240 is a Grade 2 medium duty privacy cylindrical lockset for lighter traffic. Choosing one of these drops the battery, the credential, and the audit record entirely.
19) Can a mechanical pushbutton lock stand in for the Schlage CO-200 on a low-traffic keyless door?
Only if the audit trail and the credential are not part of the requirement. The CO-200 carries an audit trail of up to 2,000 events and reads proximity credentials, which mechanical pushbutton hardware cannot do. Where the door just needs code entry with no batteries and no record, the Lockey 2830 is a mechanical pushbutton keyless knob lock with an auto-locking passage function for 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch doors, and the Lockey heavy duty mechanical keyless knob lock with adjustable backset covers the same 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch range. Both are knob trim, where the CO-200 is offered in Athens, Latitude, Longitude, Rhodes, Sparta and Tubular lever styles.
20) Which electronic lock keeps the small format interchangeable core option if the Schlage CO-200 cylinder prep does not match the existing keyway?
The CO-200 is ordered against Schlage cylinder preps: B less cylinder for Schlage, Falcon and competitive OEM 7 pin SFIC, J less cylinder for Schlage 6 pin FSIC, L less cylinder for Schlage and Falcon 6 pin KIL, or P for a Schlage standard conventional cylinder. If the facility keys to a different system, the Alarm Lock Trilogy T2 DL2700 is a Grade 1 standalone electronic cylindrical lock stated as IC/SFIC compatible, and the BEST 9KZ EZ Series is an electronic keypad cylindrical lock with a key override function. For a mechanical storeroom opening keyed to small format IC, the Marks USA 175RF SFIC is a Grade 2 storeroom clutched lever lockset supplied less core with a 2-3/4 inch backset and ANSI strike, matching the 2-3/4 inch backset the CO-200 uses.
21) What replaces the Schlage CO-200 on an office or entrance door where electronic access control is not being installed at all?
The CO-200 is an office function lock with a proximity reader and standalone electronic control. For the same office or entrance duty as straight key-operated hardware, the Dorma C150 is a Grade 1 heavy-duty cylindrical lock in entry/office function for 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors, the Dorma C853 is a Grade 1 entry keyed single cylinder lever lockset covering the same 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch range, and the Marks USA 195RAB is a Grade 1 Survivor Series entry clutched lever lockset supplied less core. All three hold the Grade 1 rating the CO-200 carries, so the specification does not step down when the electronics come out.
22) Is a Grade 2 lever lockset an acceptable substitute for the Schlage CO-200 in a heavy traffic commercial corridor?
The CO-200 is rated Grade 1 heavy duty for commercial use, and Grade 2 hardware sits in a different rating class. The Orca Hardware OCL250 entrance cylindrical lockset, OCL210 passage lockset and OCL2170 half dummy lever are all Grade 2 medium duty, the Dorma C501 single dummy trim is Grade 2, and the Stanley QCL150 entry lever with Sierra bent lever and less cylinder is Grade 2. If the spec on the drawing calls for Grade 1, look instead to Grade 1 peers such as the Cal-Royal CAL30 passage lock for 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors or the Marks USA 195N Survivor Series passage lever.
23) What differentiates the Schlage CO-200 from the Alarm Lock Trilogy T3 DL3075 for a facility that needs access records?
Both are audit-capable electronic locks. The Alarm Lock T3 DL3075 is an electronic cylindrical lock with audit trail and keypad access, Grade 1 in the DL3200 Series. The CO-200 is Grade 1 as well, but it is a mortise lock read by proximity credential, stores up to 2,000 users with an audit trail of up to 2,000 events, and can be configured with the Schlage Utility Software mobile app on a compatible Android device or managed with PC-based Schlage Express software. It also works in the same offline system as AD-200, CO-220 and CT5000. The deciding factors are chassis type, credential format, and which software the facility already runs.
24) Does the Schlage CO-200 finish range line up with mechanical locksets for standardizing a facility?
The CO-200 is offered in 605 Bright Brass, 606 Satin Brass, 612 Satin Bronze, 619 Satin Nickel, 625 Bright Chrome, 626 Satin Chrome and 643E Aged Bronze, with 626AM Satin Chrome Antimicrobial also listed among the finishes. That spread lets an electronic opening match mechanical hardware elsewhere in the building, such as the Marks USA 110AB entry knob lockset in satin stainless steel, a Grade 2 round knob with a 2-3/8 inch backset. Note the backset difference when mixing hardware: the CO-200 uses a 2-3/4 inch backset, and the Stanley QCL150 also uses a square 2-3/4 inch backset latch with an ASA strike 4-7/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch.
