Schlage Electronics CTE-MTB11-485-B – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Schlage CTE ENGAGE controller come with the lock or electric strike, or do I order that separately?
The CTE kit is the single door controller plus one Schlage MTB mobile-enabled reader, either MTB11-485 or MTB15-485. The locking device is not part of it. The CTE is built to interface with an electrified lock, an electromagnetic lock, an electric strike, an automatic operator, or an exit device, so whichever of those holds your door is a separate line on the order. Decide that first, because it drives the wiring at the opening more than the controller does.
2) Will the Schlage CTE ENGAGE controller work on an aluminum storefront door with a narrow stile?
Narrow stile and retail storefront openings are two of the applications the CTE is built around, along with multifamily and commercial mixed-use. Take the CTE-MTB11 version for that door: MTB11-485 is the mullion reader and it is the one that fits a narrow vertical surface. The controller is a separate box from the reader, so it mounts back on the secure side while the MTB11 goes on the stile or mullion. What actually latches the storefront, an electric strike or an electrified exit device, is specified separately and wired to the CTE.
3) Can a Schlage CTE controller be managed in the same system as our existing Schlage NDE and LE wireless locks?
That is the reason to pick it. The CTE puts perimeter and common area openings into one system alongside Schlage Control smart deadbolts, NDE cylindrical locks, and LE mortise locks. A property already running Control deadbolts on unit doors can add the garage, lobby, or amenity door on a CTE with a reader and manage the whole set in ENGAGE, rather than standing up a second platform just to cover the exterior openings.
4) Do I have to run network cable to every door to push access changes to a Schlage CTE?
No, there are four ways in. Walk up with the ENGAGE app on a Bluetooth phone or tablet and send updates at the CTE, BLE reaches up to 30 feet in typical building environments. Put it on an existing 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (802.11b/g/n) and it takes automatic daily updates without anyone visiting the door. Add an ENGAGE Gateway for IP to host if you want the door on the network in real time. Or run No-Tour with an MT20W, where a smart or mobile credential carries the update to the opening, subject to your access control software supporting it.
5) I have one narrow stile storefront mullion to control. Will a CDVI Atrium A22K1 with two readers work as a substitute?
The CDVI Americas A22K1 is a 2-door controller supplied with two K1 readers and DESFire EV2 credentials, so it is built around two openings and the readers that come with it. For a single narrow stile or retail storefront opening, the Schlage Electronics CTE ENGAGE single door controller is the closer match, and the CTE-MTB11 configuration supplies a mobile-enabled multi-technology mullion reader kit sized for mullion mounting, while CTE-MTB15 supplies a single-gang reader kit for a standard box. Both CTE reader kits use a direct RS-485 connection back to the controller.
6) Do I need one Schlage CTE ENGAGE controller per door, or is there a controller that handles two openings?
The Schlage Electronics CTE ENGAGE is a single door controller: one unit manages one opening, driving an electrified lock, electromagnetic lock, electric strike, automatic operator, or exit device at that door. If you have two openings in the same area, the CDVI Americas A22 ATRIUM is a 2-door controller, so one unit covers both. Both are controller-with-reader products. Two adjacent doors on one CTE deployment means two CTE units, one per opening, each with its own MTB11-485 mullion or MTB15-485 single-gang reader.
7) Can the Schlage CTE be integrated with our existing access control software, or are we limited to the ENGAGE app?
Either one. The CTE is managed with the ENGAGE mobile app or by a Physical Access Control Software (PACS) Alliance Member system. Small sites and single-building properties typically run app only. If you already have a head end, the CTE goes into it through the Alliance integration, with an ENGAGE Gateway providing the IP to host connection. No-Tour with the MT20W is the other host path, and support for that one depends on your software provider.
8) How many users and how much event history does a Schlage CTE door controller hold?
Up to 5,000 users with an audit trail of up to 2,000 events. For a multifamily lobby, amenity room, or garage door that covers a sizeable resident list plus staff, vendors, and contractors on one credential population. The audit trail is the piece property and facility teams usually care about most: 2,000 records of who presented what at that opening, held at the door and pulled up through ENGAGE or your PACS.
9) Can I wire a door position switch and a request-to-exit device into the Schlage CTE?
Inputs on the CTE cover door position sensor (DPS), request to exit (REX), request to enter (REN), and remote release (REL). DPS is what gives you door forced and door held open reporting. REX takes the exit motion sensor or the pushbar switch so normal egress does not log as a forced door. REN handles a call or entry request device, and REL takes a release from a front desk, intercom, or office. Those four terminals are what turn a reader at the door into a monitored opening.
10) Is the Schlage CTE controller rated for an unheated garage or a cold climate exterior opening?
Operating range runs -31F to 151F (-35C to 66C) with 0 to 100% humidity, non-condensing. That covers an unheated parking garage, a vestibule, a loading dock, or a northern climate exterior door. Non-condensing is the qualifier to work around: the controller needs a spot where it is not taking direct water or condensation, so it typically sits on the secure interior side with only the MTB reader out on the exposed face.
11) Will the Schlage MTB reader on the CTE read the cards and fobs our building already issues?
The MTB11 and MTB15 are multi-technology readers and work with most proximity or high-security Schlage smart credentials, so an existing Schlage card and fob population carries across. They are mobile-enabled as well, so a phone credential over Bluetooth Low Energy 4.2 is native to the reader with no extra module. That combination is what lets a property issue mobile credentials to residents while keeping physical cards on staff, cleaners, and trades at the same door.
12) I need to control two doors. Is one Schlage CTE enough, or do I need a different controller?
The CTE is a single door controller, one opening and one MTB reader per unit. Two doors means two CTEs or a two-door controller from another line. ZenSupply carries the CDVI Americas A22 ATRIUM 2-door controller, which comes with a power supply and box, and the A22K Krypto high security encrypted 2-door controller. The real difference is management, not door count: the CTE lives in ENGAGE alongside Schlage Control, NDE, and LE wireless locks, while the CDVI units run on their own ATRIUM platform. If the rest of the building is already Schlage wireless, two CTEs keep everything in one system.
13) What controller comes with the power supply and enclosure included instead of specifying them separately?
The CDVI Americas A22 ATRIUM 2-door controller is supplied with a power supply and box as part of the same part number. The Schlage Electronics CTE ENGAGE single door controller is ordered as a controller plus mobile-enabled multi-technology reader kit, in the CTE-MTB11 mullion reader or CTE-MTB15 single-gang reader configuration. Full signal, power, and electronic specifications for the CTE are in the CTE ENGAGE data sheet.
14) Is there an access control kit that arrives with the locking hardware, or do I source the strike separately?
The CDVI Americas A22K1DS KRYPTO kit is supplied with door strikes in the kit. The Schlage Electronics CTE ENGAGE single door controller ships with the Schlage MTB mobile-enabled multi-technology reader, MTB11-485 or MTB15-485, and is designed to interface with an electrified lock, electromagnetic lock, electric strike, automatic operator, or exit device, so the locking device at the opening is specified and ordered on its own. That is the practical difference when you are pricing a complete opening rather than a head end.
15) I am adding perimeter and common area doors to a building that already runs Schlage wireless locks. Which controller keeps it on one system?
The Schlage Electronics CTE ENGAGE single door controller lets perimeter and common area openings be managed in a single system alongside Schlage Control smart deadbolts, NDE cylindrical locks, and LE mortise wireless locks, using the ENGAGE mobile app or a Physical Access Control Software (PACS) Alliance Member system. The CDVI Americas A22 ATRIUM and A22K Krypto are 2-door controllers, so they suit a project where two openings are wired back to one head end. If the building's existing openings are on Schlage wireless locks, the CTE keeps the entrance on that same platform, with up to 5,000 users and an audit trail of up to 2,000 events per controller.
16) How much mounting space does the Schlage CTE controller itself need, and does it have to be at the door?
The CTE measures 2.96 x 5.89 x 7.86 inches, so allow that footprint wherever it lands. The reader is a separate component wired back on a direct RS-485 connection, which is what lets the controller sit on the secure side, above the opening, in a ceiling space, or in a nearby electrical or IT closet, with only the MTB11 or MTB15 reader on the public face of the door. That split is the usual answer when a job will not accept an enclosure in the finished lobby.
