2) How does the Schlage L9040 unlock from the outside in an emergency if someone is locked in the bathroom?
Pop the emergency button out of the outside trim, put the emergency thumbturn into the access hole and turn it. The inside lever is always free, so there is no way to be trapped in the room.

Depends what is in the frame now. The L9040 ships with a 10-072 strike, 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inches, square corner, box type, with a 1-3/16 inch lip.
