Schlage L9092EUB-17A-626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to the Schlage L9092EUB lock when the power goes out?
It stays locked. The L9092EUB is a fail secure electrically unlocking function: the outside lever is held locked whenever power is applied is reversed here, power unlocks the outside lever, so on power loss the outside lever remains locked and entry requires the key. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress, powered or not, so it does not trap anyone in the room.
2) Does the Schlage L9092EUB need 12V or 24V DC, and how much current does it draw?
Either. The lock auto detects 12V or 24V DC, so you wire it to whatever your power supply and access control board put out. Current draw is 400mA, which is what you size the supply and any door loop against when you are running several openings off one panel.
3) Does the Schlage L9092EUB come with a cylinder, or do I have to order the core separately?
Less SFIC core, so no small format interchangeable core is included. You supply and key the core yourself, which is how most institutional buyers order it so the lock drops into an existing SFIC system. The standard cylinder specification on the L9000 platform is a conventional 6-pin, C keyway, if you are going that route instead.
4) Will the L9092EUB latch into the strike already in my frame?
It ships with a 10-072 strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inch square corner with a box and a 1-3/16 inch lip, and the latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel throw with an anti-friction tongue. If your frame is prepped for a standard ANSI 4-7/8 inch mortise strike, it drops in. If your existing strike is radius corner or a different lip length, reuse of the frame prep depends on that cutout matching the 10-072 footprint.
5) Can I use this Schlage electrified mortise lock on a fire rated door?
The L9000 mortise locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors (the L9076 and L9077 are the exceptions), with UL/cUL listing for A label single doors up to 4 by 10 feet and pairs up to 8 by 10 feet. The letter F and the UL symbol on the latch front are the field confirmation. The electrified functions are UL19X listed for single-point locking.
6) Is the Schlage L9092EUB Grade 1, and does it meet ADA?
Grade 1 under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 for both security and operational, tested and certified, and it meets ADA requirements. Note the grading shifts with cylinder choice: with an interchangeable core cylinder the assembly is rated Grade 2 security, while a concealed shell cylinder keeps it at A156.13 Grade 1 operational and security. Since this one is ordered less SFIC core, that distinction matters if your spec calls out Grade 1 security on the complete lockset. It also meets the Buy American Act.
7) I need electrified latch retraction, not just an electrified lever - what should I use instead of the L9092EUB-17A?
The L9092EUB-17A keeps the outside lever continuously locked by 12V or 24V DC and releases the lever rather than pulling the latch. If the opening needs the latchbolt itself retracted electrically - for example to hold the door in a pull-open condition - the Command Access LPM110ECH electrified latch retraction mortise lock chassis at 24VDC, the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock, and the SDC 7600 Series motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control are all latch-retraction designs.
8) Do I need to specify handing for the Schlage L9092EUB?
No. The lock is field reversible, so one part number covers left and right hand openings and you set the hand during installation. That is useful for MRO stock rooms carrying a single SKU for a whole building.
9) Will the levers on this Schlage mortise lock match the rest of my building's hardware?
L Series levers suite with Von Duprin exit devices and with the related L Series products LE, LM9200, LM9300 and LT, so you can carry one lever design across mortise locks, exit device trim and multipoint openings. The platform covers 14 finishes and 33 lever designs; this configuration is built in 626 satin chrome with the 17A trim design.
10) What access control monitoring options can I get with the Schlage L9000 electrified mortise locks?
The electrified L Series locks offer request-to-exit (RX), door position switch (DPS), latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor, and EL/EU is customer selectable so the same lock body can be set fail safe or fail secure. Those are the signals an integrator ties back to the panel for door-forced and door-held alarms.
11) Should I use an electrically unlocking mortise lock or an electric latch retraction lock on a card reader door?
An electrically unlocking lock like the Schlage L9092EUB controls the outside lever only, the latchbolt stays projected, so it works on a standard access control door where the reader simply frees the handle. Motorized latch retraction pulls the bolt out of the strike instead, which is what you want when the door is on an automatic operator or needs to be held mechanically unlatched. If that is your application, the SDC 7600 Series is a Grade 1 motorized latch retraction mortise lockset for 1-3/4 inch doors, and Command Access offers the LPM190-M-EU-CH, a 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock with electric unlock in a storeroom function.
12) Is there a retrofit option if I want to electrify an existing mortise lock instead of buying a whole new Schlage lockset?
Command Access builds electrified mortise lock chassis for that purpose, including the LPM110ECH Series electrified latch retraction chassis running on 24VDC and the ML1080LB heavy-duty storeroom function chassis. Those replace the lock body inside hardware you already have. The Schlage L9092EUB is a complete lockset with its own lever trim, so it is the choice when you are replacing the opening's hardware outright rather than converting it.
13) Is the Command Access LPM110ECH a drop-in substitute for the Schlage L9092EUB-17A?
No. The LPM110ECH is sold as a mortise lock chassis with 24VDC operation, so trim and cylinder are handled separately, while the L9092EUB-17A is a complete keyed electrified mortise lock with 17A lever trim, a 3/4 inch stainless steel latch with anti-friction tongue and a 10-072 square corner box strike. The LPM110ECH also runs 24VDC only, where the Schlage auto-detects 12/24VDC.
14) For a behavioral health or institutional door, is the L9092EUB-17A the right mortise lock or is there a better fit?
The L9092EUB-17A is a keyed electrified function with a lever handle and free inside lever for immediate egress. Where the application calls for an institutional lock with no free egress side, the Command Access ML04EU is an electrified mortise lock chassis in asylum/institution/utility function. Both are heavy duty electrified mortise designs.
15) How does the SDC 7800 PRO compare with the Schlage L9092EUB-17A for a high-abuse opening?
The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO Series is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch, for 1-3/4 inch doors. The Schlage L9092EUB-17A is also for 1-3/4 inch doors and takes a different approach to abuse: the L Series offers a Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim option on most functions including electrified, plus a security blocking hub that prevents picking by removing levers.
16) Does the DynaLock EML-1 do the same job as the Schlage L9092EUB-17A?
Not quite. The DynaLock EML-1 is an electrified mortise lock in storeroom function. The L9092EUB-17A is a single cylinder keyed function where the outside lever is electrically unlocked and stays locked while powered, with the latchbolt retracted by key or by the inside lever, and it is field reversible for either hand.
17) Is the Schlage L9092EUB suitable for a high traffic commercial opening like a school or hospital corridor?
It is a commercial, heavy duty mortise lockset, Grade 1 under A156.13, with an auxiliary latch that deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed and a security blocking hub that stops picking by pulling the levers. The deadbolt functions in the family also carry an anti-saw pin. That combination is what institutional facilities specify for corridor and stairwell doors.
18) Can I get a high security keyway on the Schlage L9000 mortise lock?
Yes. A UL437 listed locking cylinder is an option on the L Series, specified as a Primus 20-500 Series cylinder. Standard is a conventional 6-pin in the C keyway. Since the L9092EUB is ordered less SFIC core, the cylinder decision is entirely yours at order time.
