Schlage L9092EUR-06A-626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to the Schlage L9092EU mortise lock when power fails?
In the EU (electrically unlocking) setting, a switch or power failure locks the outside lever, so the opening stays secure and entry requires a key. That is fail secure behavior. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress regardless of power. If you need the outside lever to go free on power loss instead, that is the EL (electrically locking) setting, and the L9000 electrified lock is customer-selectable between EL and EU.
2) What voltage and current does the L9092EU electrified mortise lock need?
It runs on 12 or 24 VDC and auto detects which is supplied, drawing 400mA. Size your power supply and transfer hinge or door loop for that draw at the voltage you are feeding it.
3) Will the Schlage L9092EU fit a 1-3/4 inch door, and does it come in other thicknesses?
1-3/4 inches is the thickness this lock is built for, which is the standard commercial door. Other door thicknesses are available through the L Series options portfolio rather than as-is here, so a thicker door needs the thickness option specified. The lock case itself measures 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, so the door needs a mortise pocket cut to that L9000 prep.
4) Will this lock latch into the strike already in my frame?
It ships with a 10-072 strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches, square corner, with box and a 1-3/16 inch lip. The latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel latch with anti-friction tongue, and an auxiliary latch deadlocks it once the door closes. If your existing frame prep is a square corner ASA strike of those dimensions you can reuse it; a radius corner or a different lip length means using the supplied strike and adjusting the frame.
5) What cylinder and keyway does the Schlage L9092EU come with, and can I key it into my existing system?
Standard is a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the S123 keyway. Keying is specified when you order: no special keying, keyed alike, or keyed different on an interchangeable core basis, with a control key as an added option. Note the certification difference by cylinder choice, interchangeable core cylinders carry Grade 2 security while the concealed shell cylinder holds A156.13 Grade 1 operational and security. A UL437 cylinder is available by specifying a Primus 20-500 Series cylinder.
6) Can I use this electrified mortise lock on a fire rated door?
The L9000 mortise locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors (L9076 and L9077 excepted), and UL/cUL listed for A label single doors up to 4 by 10 feet and pairs up to 8 by 10 feet. The letter F and UL symbol on the latch front identify the listing. Electrified functions are UL19X listed for single-point locking applications.
7) Does the L9092EU meet Grade 1 and ADA for a school or hospital spec?
It is a heavy duty commercial mortise lock, Grade 1, tested and certified under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 for Security and Operational, and the L Series meets ADA requirements. It also meets the Buy American Act, which matters on federal and many state jobs. Levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch or less comply with the California Referenced Standards Code.
8) What is a comparable electrified mortise lock to the Schlage L9092EUR-06A that also runs on 24VDC and offers an electric unlock function?
The Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock with electric unlock in a storeroom function. The Schlage L9092EU is a single cylinder keyed electrified mortise lock that auto-detects 12/24VDC and draws 400mA, with the outside lever continuously locked or unlocked by the applied voltage and the latchbolt retracted by key outside or lever inside. The Command Access unit adds motorized latch retraction, which pulls the latchbolt itself electrically rather than only releasing the outside lever.
9) I need latch retraction for an automatic operator, not just outside lever control. What mortise lock should I use instead of the L9092EU?
For an opening where an automatic operator or access control system needs the latchbolt pulled back electrically, look at the SDC 7600 Series Grade 1 motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control, or the Command Access LPM110ECH electrified latch retraction mortise lock chassis with 24VDC operation. The Schlage L9092EU controls the outside lever only - it is electrically unlocking, fail secure, with the latchbolt retracted mechanically by the outside key or the inside lever.
10) Is the L9092EU handed, or can I use one lock for either swing?
Field reversible, so one lock covers either hand without ordering a specific handing. You set it on the job.
11) Can I get door position and request-to-exit monitoring with this lock?
The L9000 electrified locks offer RX (request to exit), DPS (door position switch), latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor as options, so the access control head end can see both the door and the bolt. Those are specified when ordering rather than supplied on every lock.
12) Will the levers on this lock match my Von Duprin exit devices and other openings?
All L Series levers suite with Von Duprin exit devices and with the related L Series products LE, LM9200, LM9300 and LT, so a building can carry one lever design across mortise locks, exit device trim and multipoint locks. The L Series offers 14 finishes and 33 lever, two knob, five rose and three escutcheon designs to match existing openings. This particular lock is finished in 626 Satin Chrome.
13) What are the alternatives to the Schlage L9092EU for an electrified mortise opening?
Depends what you are changing. If you only need the electrified chassis to drop into an existing mortise lock rather than a complete lockset, Command Access makes chassis level units, the LPM110ECH (24VDC electrified latch retraction chassis) and the ML1080LB heavy duty storeroom chassis. For an institutional or asylum function, the Command Access ML04EU covers Asylum/Institution/Utility. The DynaLock EML-1 is a storeroom function electrified mortise lock. If vandal resistance at the lever is the concern, the SDC Selectric 7800 PRO is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch for 1-3/4 inch doors, while on the Schlage side the equivalent approach is the Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim option, available on most L Series functions including electrified.
14) Is there a non-electrified mortise lock I can use on doors in the same project that do not need access control?
The Command Access ML1080LB is a heavy-duty storeroom function mortise lock chassis without electrification, which suits openings that only need a keyed storeroom lock. The Schlage L9092EU is an electrified mortise lock operating on 12/24VDC, so it is the choice only where the outside lever has to be controlled remotely.
15) What should I specify for a behavioral health or detention opening instead of the Schlage L9092EU?
The Command Access ML04EU is an electrified mortise lock chassis in an asylum/institution/utility function, which is the function normally called for on behavioral health and secure institutional openings because both sides are key controlled. The Schlage L9092EU is a single cylinder keyed function with the inside lever always free for immediate egress, which is a different security model.
16) Which electrified mortise lock holds up best to abuse on a high traffic exterior door?
The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO Series is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch on the outside trim, which is intended for openings where the outside lever gets forced. The Schlage L9092EU is a heavy duty Grade 1 electrified mortise lock and offers the Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim option on most functions including electrified.
17) Does the DynaLock EML-1 do the same thing as the Schlage L9092EU?
Not quite. The DynaLock EML-1 is an electrified mortise lock in a storeroom function. The Schlage L9092EU is a single cylinder keyed electrified function in which the outside lever is continuously locked or unlocked by 12 or 24V DC, with customer-selectable EL/EU operation and options for RX, DPS, latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor. If your specification calls for switchable fail safe/fail secure or monitoring outputs, the two are not interchangeable.
18) Can I order a lock chassis alone to electrify mortise locks already installed, rather than a complete lockset?
Yes - the Command Access ML1080LB and ML04EU are offered as mortise lock chassis, and the LPM110ECH is an electrified latch retraction mortise lock chassis. The Schlage L9092EU ships as a complete keyed mortise lockset with a conventional 6-pin S123 keyway cylinder, a 3/4 inch stainless steel latch with anti-friction tongue, and a 10-072 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inch square corner box strike.
19) How secure is the lock body itself against attack?
The case is cold rolled steel with zinc dichromate plating. A security blocking hub prevents picking the lock by removing the levers, and deadbolt functions in the L Series include an anti-saw pin in the bolt to resist cut-through. The L Series is also listed to ANSI/ASTM F476-76 Grade 40 for forced entry resistance.
20) Can I convert an existing L9000 mortise lock to this electrified function instead of buying new?
The L9000 uses a universal lock case that supports 10 different functions from a single lock body, and Schlage publishes an L Series Universal Transformation Guide for changing function in the field. Note that the electrified EU function requires the electrified lock body and power to the door, so a standard mechanical L9000 is not converted to L9092EU by trim change alone.
21) My doors are 1-3/4 inch. Which electrified mortise locks fit that thickness?
The Schlage L9092EU is specified for 1-3/4 inch doors and is field reversible for handing. Among comparable electrified mortise locksets, the SDC 7600 Series and the SDC Selectric 7800 PRO Series are also listed for 1-3/4 inch doors.
