Schlage L9094EUL-06A-626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens at the door if power drops on a Schlage L9094EUL mortise lock?
It unlocks. The EU (fail safe) configuration keeps the outside lever locked only while 12V or 24V DC is applied, so cutting power releases the outside lever and anyone can enter. If you need the opening to stay secure on power loss, you want the fail secure (EL) arrangement instead. Either way the inside lever is always free for immediate egress, so egress does not depend on power.
2) What voltage and current does this electrified mortise lock need?
The L9094EUL runs on 12 or 24 VDC and auto detects which it is given, drawing 400mA. That lets you feed it from either common access control power supply without ordering a voltage-specific lock, but you still need to size the supply and the transfer hinge or door loop for the 400mA draw plus any other devices on the circuit.
3) Will this Schlage electrified mortise lock fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes, 1-3/4 inches is the listed door thickness, which is the standard commercial door. The lock case measures 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, so the door needs a mortise pocket to match. Other door thicknesses exist in the L Series options portfolio, but they are a specify-at-order item rather than this configuration.
4) Will this lock latch into the strike already in my frame?
It ships with a 10-072 strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches, square corner, with a box and a 1-3/16 inch lip. The latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel unit with an anti-friction tongue. If your frame is already prepped for a 4-7/8 inch ANSI square corner mortise strike, the supplied strike drops in; radius corner or 8 inch T-strike frames need a different strike face.
5) What cylinder comes with the L9094EUL, and can I key it to my existing system?
It comes with a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the C keyway. Because the function is double cylinder keyed, there are cylinders on both sides. If your building runs a different keyway or an interchangeable core system, specify that at order; note that with interchangeable core cylinders the assembly is rated Grade 2 security, while a concealed shell cylinder holds A156.13 Grade 1 operational and security. A UL437 cylinder is available by specifying a Primus 20-500 Series.
6) Is this mortise lock approved for a fire rated door opening?
Yes. L Series mortise locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors (the L9076 and L9077 are the exceptions), and UL/cUL listed for A label single doors up to 4' x 10' and pairs up to 8' x 10'. The letter F and the UL symbol on the latch front are the field indication of that listing. Electrified functions are UL19X listed for single-point locking.
7) Does this Schlage lock meet Grade 1 and ADA for an institutional spec?
The L9000 mortise lock is tested and certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1, security and operational, and is also ANSI/ASTM F476-76 Grade 40 UL listed. It meets ADA requirements and the Buy American Act, and carries Miami-Dade NOAs and Florida Building Commission listings. Levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch or less comply with the California Referenced Standards Code.
8) What is the closest alternative to the Schlage L9094EUL-06A if I need an electrically unlocking mortise lock but not the Schlage L Series?
The Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock with electric unlock in a storeroom function, and it is heavy-duty rated. The Schlage L9094EUL-06A differs in that it accepts either 12V or 24V DC, is a double cylinder keyed function, and is field reversible for hand. If the opening is fed only 24VDC and a storeroom function satisfies the spec, the LPM190-M-EU-CH covers the same electric unlock behavior.
9) I need a Grade 1 electrified mortise lock for a 1-3/4 inch door - what are my options besides Schlage L9094EUL?
The SDC 7600 Series is a Grade 1 motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control, listed for 1-3/4 inch doors. The Schlage L9094EUL-06A is also Grade 1 and specified for 1-3/4 inch doors, but it auto-detects 12 or 24VDC and draws 400mA. Choose the SDC 7600 if your access control system is 24VDC motorized latch retraction; choose the L9094EUL if you need fail safe electric unlock of the outside lever with the inside lever always free for egress.
10) Is a latch retraction mortise lock the same as the electrically unlocking Schlage L9094EUL?
No. The Schlage L9094EUL-06A electrically unlocks the outside lever - the latchbolt is retracted by key or by the inside lever, not by the power supply. A latch retraction unit such as the Command Access LPM110ECH electrified latch retraction mortise lock chassis pulls the latchbolt itself back electrically, which is what you want for remote release on an unlatched opening. If your door closer and frame expect the latch to stay projected while the lever is simply energized free, the electric unlock design is the correct choice.
11) Can I substitute a DynaLock EML-1 for a Schlage L9094EUL-06A?
Only if the function change is acceptable. The DynaLock EML-1 is an electrified mortise lock in a storeroom function, where the outside lever is always locked and key retracts the latch. The Schlage L9094EUL-06A is a double cylinder keyed, fail safe electrically unlocking function - the outside lever is held locked by 12V or 24V DC and releases on power loss. If the opening is on a fire alarm release or egress path that requires the outside trim to unlock when power drops, the storeroom EML-1 will not do that.
12) Do I have to order this lock handed, left or right?
No. The L9094EUL is field reversible, so one lock covers either hand and you can set it at the opening. Useful if you are stocking spares for a building with mixed swings rather than buying a handed lock per door.
13) How does the double cylinder function on the L9094 actually work day to day?
The outside lever is held locked electrically. To get in from the outside without releasing the lock, you use the key, which retracts the latchbolt. From the inside the lever always retracts the latch, so egress never needs power or a key. An auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt while the door is closed and locked, which is what stops the latch being shimmed.
14) Can I monitor door and latch status with this lock instead of adding separate switches?
Yes, the L Series electrified locks offer request-to-exit (RX), door position switch (DPS), latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor as options, so the monitoring can live in the lock case rather than in a separate contact and REX device. These are specified when you order, not added later in the field.
15) Will the 06A levers match the Von Duprin exit devices on my other doors?
They do. All L Series levers suite with Von Duprin exit devices and with the related L Series products LE, LM9200, LM9300 and LT, so a building can carry one lever design across mortise locks, exit device trim and multipoint hardware. There are 33 lever designs, two knobs, five roses, three escutcheons and 14 finishes in the family.
16) What other brands of electrified mortise lock could I use instead of the Schlage L9094EUL?
For a fail safe electric unlock in a mortise case, Command Access makes the LPM190-M-EU-CH, a 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock with electric unlock in storeroom function, and the ML04EU chassis in asylum/institution/utility function. DynaLock's EML-1 is a storeroom function electrified mortise lock. The practical differences are function and voltage: the Schlage auto detects 12 or 24 VDC and is double cylinder keyed, where the Command Access units are 24V and storeroom or institutional function, so the key and lever behaviour is not the same.
17) Is there another Grade 1 mortise lockset for a 1-3/4 inch door if I need motorized latch retraction rather than electric lever control?
The SDC 7600 Series is a Grade 1 motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control, listed for 1-3/4 inch doors, same as the Schlage. Motorized latch retraction pulls the latchbolt itself, which suits remote release and push-pull openings, where the L9094EUL controls the outside lever and leaves the latch to be retracted by key or inside lever. SDC also offers the Selectric 7800 PRO, a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch, also for 1-3/4 inch doors.
18) What should I use instead of the Schlage L9094EUL-06A on a behavioral health or institutional opening?
The Command Access ML04EU is an electrified mortise lock chassis in an asylum/institution/utility function, heavy-duty rated. The Schlage L9094EUL-06A is a double cylinder keyed function with the inside lever always free for immediate egress, which is not what an institutional opening controlling both sides calls for. For a room where the inside must also be key-controlled, the institutional-function ML04EU matches the application.
19) Which electrified mortise lock holds up better to abuse than the Schlage L9094EUL-06A on a high traffic entry?
The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO Series is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch, listed for 1-3/4 inch doors - the clutch lets the outside lever spin free under force rather than transmitting torque into the chassis. The Schlage L9094EUL-06A is heavy duty and Grade 1 on a 1-3/4 inch door and uses a security blocking hub that prevents lock picking by removing the levers. Both suit a 1-3/4 inch commercial opening; the difference is clutch-based free-wheeling versus the blocking hub design.
20) What finish does this one come in?
626 Satin Chrome. The wider L Series is offered in 14 finishes, so if you are matching existing hardware in a different finish you would order the same lock in that finish code rather than this one.
21) Can I get a free-wheeling outside lever on an electrified L Series lock so the trim survives abuse?
Yes. Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim is available on most L Series functions, electrified included, so the outside lever rotates without transmitting force into the lock when it is locked. That is the option to specify for school corridors and other high abuse openings. A 180 degree visibility indicator and ligature resistant trim are separate options in the same family.
