Schlage L9094EUL-17A-626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Schlage L9094EL unlock or lock when power is lost?
It unlocks. The L9094EL is the fail safe version: the outside lever is held locked continuously by 12V or 24V DC, so when power drops the outside lever becomes free and the door can be opened from either side. If you need the opposite behavior (locked on power loss, secure during an outage), you want the fail secure EU version instead. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress regardless of power.
2) What voltage and current draw do I need to spec for a Schlage L9094EL power supply?
12 or 24 VDC, with a 400mA draw. The L9000 electrified locks auto detect 12V/24V DC, so you do not have to order voltage-specific. Size the supply and any transfer hinge or door loop for 400mA per opening, and remember that a fail safe lock is energized whenever the door is meant to be locked, so that draw is continuous, not momentary.
3) Will the L9094EL mortise lock fit my door, and do I need to specify handing?
It is built for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the lock is field reversible, so one lock covers either hand without a separate order code. The mortise case measures 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches, so the door needs a standard L9000 mortise pocket. Other door thicknesses are available as an option on the L Series, but the standard build is 1-3/4.
4) Can I use the Schlage L9094EL on a fire rated door?
Yes. L9000 mortise locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors (the exceptions are the L9076 and L9077, not this function), and UL/cUL listed for A label single doors up to 4' x 10' and pairs up to 8' x 10'. An F and the UL symbol stamped on the latch front identify the listing. The electrified functions are UL19X listed for single-point locking. Note that a fail safe lock on a fire door usually needs to be tied to the fire alarm per your AHJ.
5) Will the L9094EL latch into the strike already in my frame?
It ships with a 10-072 strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches with square corners and a box, with a 1-3/16 inch lip length. The latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel latchbolt with an anti-friction tongue, so it works against a closer or a gasketed frame. If your existing frame prep is already cut for a 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 square corner ANSI strike, the supplied strike drops straight in; radius corner or deeper-lip frames will need the matching strike option.
6) What does double cylinder mean on the L9094EL, and what keyway does it come with?
Double cylinder means there is a keyed cylinder on both sides of the door, and the latchbolt can be retracted by key from either side or by the inside lever. It comes with a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the Schlage C keyway. If your facility is on an interchangeable core system, note that IC core cylinders take the assembly to Grade 2 security, while a concealed shell cylinder keeps A156.13 Grade 1 operational and security. A UL437 cylinder is available by specifying a Primus 20-500 Series.
7) I need an electrified mortise lock that stays locked in a power outage. Is the L9094EL the right one?
No. The L9094EL is fail safe, so losing power frees the outside lever and the opening goes unsecured. For a storeroom-type opening that must stay locked without power, look at a fail secure (EU) electrified mortise lock instead. Comparable fail secure storeroom options include the DynaLock EML-1 Series and the Command Access ML1080LB heavy duty storeroom chassis. Fail safe is the right choice for stair re-entry and alarm-released openings where code requires the door to release on power loss.
8) What is the closest electrified mortise lock to the Schlage L9094EL if I need electric unlock on the outside lever?
The Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is the nearest functional counterpart. It is a 24V motorized mortise lock with electric unlock and optional REX, in a storeroom function. The Schlage L9094EL differs in that it is a double cylinder keyed function that auto detects 12/24VDC and draws 400mA, with the outside lever continuously locked by power and released on power loss (fail safe), while the inside lever stays free for immediate egress. If your opening is keyed on both sides, the L9094EL matches; if it is a storeroom opening with a keyed outside and always-free inside, the LPM190 covers it.
9) I need latch retraction, not lever unlocking - what should I order instead of the L9094EL?
The L9094EL releases the outside lever electrically; the latchbolt itself is retracted only by key or by the inside lever. If your application needs the latchbolt pulled back electrically - for example remote release into an opening with an automatic operator - look at the Command Access LPM110ECH electrified latch retraction mortise lock chassis, which runs on 24VDC, or the SDC 7600 Series motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control, which is a Grade 1 lock listed for 1-3/4 inch doors like the L9094EL.
10) Is this lock heavy duty enough for a high traffic school or hospital entry?
The L9000 mortise lock is a heavy duty, Grade 1 commercial lock, tested and certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 for both security and operational, and Schlage states it exceeds those standards. It also carries ANSI/ASTM F476-76 Grade 40, meets ADA requirements, and complies with the Buy American Act, which matters on federal and public work. A security blocking hub prevents picking by pulling the levers.
11) Can I get door position and request-to-exit signals out of this lock instead of adding separate devices?
Yes. The L9000 electrified locks offer RX (request to exit), DPS (door position switch), latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor as options, so an access control integrator can pull those signals from the lock body rather than mounting a separate REX sensor and door contact. Specify the monitoring options with the order, since they are not part of the base fail safe build.
12) Will the levers on this electrified mortise lock match the rest of my Schlage and Von Duprin openings?
They will. All L Series levers suite with Von Duprin exit devices and with the related L Series products LE, LM9200, LM9300 and LT, so an electrified opening can carry the same lever and finish as the exit devices and the mechanical mortise locks down the corridor. The family offers 14 finishes and 33 lever, two knob, five rose and three escutcheon designs; the standard stocked build here is 626 satin chrome.
13) For a behavioral health or institutional opening, is the L9094EL the right mortise lock?
The Schlage L9094EL is a double cylinder keyed electrified function; Schlage offers ligature resistant trim options on the L Series for behavioral health applications. If the specification calls out an asylum/institution/utility function rather than an electrified double cylinder, the Command Access ML04EU is a heavy-duty electrified mortise lock chassis built in that institutional function.
14) Which mortise lock should I use on a high-abuse door where levers get forced?
The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO Series is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch, sized for 1-3/4 inch doors. The Schlage L9094EL takes a different approach to abuse: it also fits 1-3/4 inch doors, exceeds ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 security and operational standards, uses a security blocking hub to prevent picking by removing the levers, and offers a Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim option on most functions including electrified.
15) My panel only supplies 24VDC - which of these locks will work?
The Schlage L9094EL auto detects 12/24VDC, so a 24VDC supply drives it directly, with a 400mA draw to size the power supply against. Among the alternatives, the Command Access LPM110ECH runs on 24VDC operation, the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized lock, and the SDC 7600 Series uses 24VDC control - all single-voltage where the L9094EL accepts either.
16) Can I tell from the hallway whether the door is locked, and are there options for behavioral health or school openings?
The L Series offers an exclusive 180 degree visibility indicator so staff can read the lock status from down the corridor, which is why it shows up on classroom and clinical specs. For behavioral health work there is the Gold Standard ligature resistant trim, plus the HSLR high risk and SL1/SK1 ligature resistant trims. Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim, which spins rather than breaking when forced, is available on most functions including electrified ones. Anti-microbial coatings and tactile warning are also in the options list.
