They bring together aesthetic options appropriate for the design-forward occupant touch points of these industries and the full range of Schlage key system security. You can use PC Series locks as part of a common aesthetic. They are made to suite with other Allegion products to present a quality, complete door hardware solution and provide a consistent user experience throughout your building or complex. With the PC Series, you can speedily install the lock with the common cylindrical ANSI 161 door prep, pre-assembled install-assist design, and a no-adjustment chassis that fits the full door range.

Schlage PC10 ATH 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Schlage PC10 passage lock fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes. The PC10 is specified for 1-3/4 inch doors and uses a no-adjustment chassis, so there is nothing to set on the job. It drops into the common cylindrical ANSI 161 door prep with a 2-3/4 inch backset. If your existing openings were bored 2-3/8 inch, this is not the lock for that prep.
2) What does the Schlage PC10 passage function actually do, and does it lock at all?
It never locks. Levers on both sides, latchbolt only, no cylinder and no deadbolt, and the latch retracts from either side at all times. That is the F01 passage function, for corridors, hall doors and closets where you only want the door to stay shut, not secured. If you need a room that locks, look at the keyed PC functions (entrance, office, storeroom, classroom) or the privacy bed/bath function instead.
3) Do I need to specify a hand for the Schlage PC10, left or right?
No handing to specify. The PC10 is non-handed and field reversible, so one part number covers every door swing in the building. For a property manager buying a pallet of passage locks, that means no split order and no wrong-hand returns.
4) Will the Schlage PC10 latch into the strike already in my frame?
It ships with a 10-072 square corner ANSI strike, 1-1/4 inch by 4-7/8 inch with a 1-3/16 inch lip and a box. If your frames are prepped for a full ANSI strike of that size, the lock drops straight in. Frames cut for a small T-strike or a radius corner strike will need the prep changed or a different strike.
5) Can the Schlage PC10 go on a fire rated door?
Yes. The PC series is fire rated and UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, and the passage function has no locking element to interfere with egress. It is also certified to ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 for operational and security performance.
6) Will the Schlage PC10 passage lever match the keyed locks and exit devices on my other doors?
It is built to suite. PC Series levers suite with Schlage PM Series, PT Series and ALX Series Grade 2 cylindrical locks, and all the levers suite with Von Duprin exit devices. So a corridor door on a PC10 passage lock can carry the same lever and finish as the keyed office doors and the stairwell exit device down the hall.
7) Is the Schlage PC10 a mortise lock or a cylindrical lock?
It is a cylindrical lock. It installs in a bored cylindrical prep, the ANSI 161 prep, not a mortise pocket routed into the door edge. If your doors are already mortised, a bored lock will not fill that pocket, and you want a true mortise passage lock such as the Falcon MA101 or the Hager 3810S instead.
8) I need a passage lock for a behavioral health unit - is the PC10 the right choice?
For a behavioral health or psychiatric opening, look at the TownSteel MRX-L-01 instead. It is a Grade 1 heavy duty anti-ligature lever mortise lockset in stainless steel with the same passage/hall/closet function, built for 1-3/4 inch doors. The TownSteel MRX-A-01 is the arch trim version of the same passage function, also Grade 1 heavy duty ligature resistant satin stainless steel. The Schlage PC10 uses conventional straight and curved lever styles with a snap-on rose, which is standard commercial trim rather than ligature resistant trim.
9) What is the closest Grade 1 passage lock to the Schlage PC10 from another manufacturer?
The Falcon MA101 is the nearest straight equivalent. It is a Grade 1 heavy-duty mortise passage lock in the MA Series, fire rated, with field reversible operation - the same passage/hall/closet function family and the same field reversible handing the Schlage PC10 carries. Both are latchbolt-only locks with levers operable from both sides at all times, so either will hang on a corridor, closet, or utility door with no keying involved.
10) Can I use the Accentra 8805FL in place of the Schlage PC10?
No - they are different functions. The Accentra 8805FL is a Grade 1 storeroom mortise lock in the 8800 Series with an Arcadia lever, which means a keyed outside lever that stays locked. The Schlage PC10 is non-keyed passage: latchbolt only, retracted by the lever from either side at all times, with no locking at all. Both are Grade 1, but a storeroom lock secures the opening and a passage lock only latches it. If you need the door to lock, the 8805FL is the one; if you need it to swing freely, the PC10 is.
11) I need privacy on a bathroom door instead of passage - what matches?
For a bed/bath opening, the Cal-Royal NM8440 is a Grade 1 privacy mortise lockset with deadbolt for 1-3/4 inch doors, the same door thickness the Schlage PC10 is built for. The Hager 3840S is another Grade 1 privacy mortise lock with a 2-3/4 inch backset - the same backset as the PC10 - covering 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors. The PC10 itself has no privacy locking: the latchbolt retracts from either side at all times.
12) What lever styles and finishes does the Schlage PC10 come in?
Eight solid zinc lever designs: Athens, Boardwalk, Broadway, Latitude, Longitude, Rhodes, Sparta and Tubular. Six finishes across all of them, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 619 Satin Nickel, 622 Matte Black, 625 Bright Chrome, 626 Satin Chrome and 643E Aged Bronze. The rose is snap-on wrought brass with no exposed screws, which is why the trim reads as finish hardware rather than back-of-house hardware.
13) Can I add door position or request-to-exit monitoring to a Schlage PC10?
Monitoring is available on the PC Series, but the mechanical Request to Exit (RX) kits are sold separately and have to be ordered as a line item alongside the lock. The PC10 itself is a purely mechanical, non-electronic lock. If you want the electronics built into the lock, the Schlage Electronics ENGAGE Series LEMD is a Grade 1 wireless mortise lock with a 3-hour fire rating.
14) Does a Schlage PC10 passage lock need a key or a keyway specified when I order it?
Nothing to key. The PC10 has no cylinder, so there is no keyway, no keying detail and no core to order. The only two choices on the order are lever style and finish. Keying only enters the picture on the keyed PC functions, which run the Everest 29 S123 keyway standard with Primus available as an upgrade.
15) Which lock matches the PC10 for an office or entrance door that still needs to lock?
The Cal-Royal NM8050 is a Grade 1 office/entrance mortise lockset with auxiliary deadlatch, built for 1-3/4 inch doors - the same door thickness as the Schlage PC10. The Hager 3850E is a Grade 1 office mortise lock with lever and escutcheon on a 2-3/4 inch backset, matching the PC10 backset, over a 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/2 inch thickness range. The PC10 covers only the passage function of that door group.
16) What do I order if the door needs a push/pull rather than a lever?
The Marks USA 5PDN is the push/pull answer. It is a Grade 1 hospital passage mortise push/pull paddleset in satin stainless steel, ligature resistant and ADA compliant. It gives you the same non-latching-from-either-side passage behavior without a lever to grip, which suits patient rooms and high-traffic corridors where a paddle is specified. The Schlage PC10 is a lever lock across all eight of its lever styles.
17) What is the difference between the Schlage PC10 and an Emtek 3102 Memphis mortise lockset?
The Emtek 3102 Memphis is a dummy function - it is trim that mounts to the door with no latch and no moving mechanism, used on inactive leaves and closet fronts. The Schlage PC10 is a working Grade 1 passage lock: it has a latchbolt that the lever retracts from either side. The Emtek 3019 Brisbane, 3104 Hamilton, and 3106 Manhattan are the same dummy story in different trim designs. If the door needs to latch shut, a dummy will not do it.
18) Is there a passage lock with a keypad or credential reader like the PC10?
The Schlage PC10 is entirely mechanical and non-electronic. If the opening needs credentials, the Schlage Electronics LEMD-GRW is a Grade 1 ENGAGE Series wireless mortise lock with a 125kHz proximity reader and a 3-hour fire rating, and the Schlage CO-100-MS-40-KP is a Grade 1 heavy duty standalone electronic mortise lock with a keypad reader for 1-3/4 inch doors. Note that both control access, where the PC10 does not lock at all - so an electronic lock is a change in function, not just a change in credential.
19) What Grade 1 lock do I use for a classroom door if passage is not enough?
For a classroom opening, the Cal-Royal NM8070 is a Grade 1 classroom mortise lockset with auxiliary deadlatch for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Corbin Russwin ML2003 is a Grade 1 mortise classroom lockset in the ML2000 Series, also for 1-3/4 inch doors. Both match the 1-3/4 inch door thickness the Schlage PC10 is built for. The PC10 is non-keyed passage, so it cannot be locked down from the corridor the way a classroom function can.
20) Does a BEST 45H mortise lock body do the same job as the Schlage PC10?
Not as ordered. The BEST 45HCAC is a heavy duty mortise lock body with public entrance function and field reversible operation - a lock body, without the lever trim, and a keyed public entrance function rather than passage. The BEST 45HCAINL is the same family with intruder function. The Schlage PC10 ships as a complete non-keyed passage lock with a lever and snap-on rose, so a lock body alone will not finish the opening.
21) Are the Baldwin 6301 and 6310 mortise lock bodies interchangeable with the Schlage PC10?
No. The Baldwin 6301LS is an entry/apartment lever-by-lever mortise lock body on a 2-1/2 inch backset, and the Baldwin 6310 is an entry/storeroom mortise lock body, also 2-1/2 inch backset. The Schlage PC10 uses a 2-3/4 inch backset, so the door prep does not line up, and both Baldwin bodies are keyed entry functions rather than non-keyed passage.
22) Is a Grade 1 passage lock overkill for apartment closets and hallway doors?
Grade 1 is the top ANSI/BHMA operational and security tier, tested for cycle count, door impact, warped door and bolt strength. On a closet door it buys you cycle life rather than security, since a passage lock has no locking function at all. Where the traffic is genuinely light and budget matters more, Schlage's ALX Series is the Grade 2 cylindrical line and the PC levers suite with it, so the two can share an aesthetic on the same floor.
23) I need a dormitory or corridor function instead of passage - what is comparable?
The Sargent 7925 is a Grade 1 heavy duty mortise lock in the 7900 Series with dormitory exit function, rose trim, and a single cylinder deadbolt. It carries the same rose-style trim presentation as the Schlage PC10 and the same Grade 1 rating, but adds a deadbolt and corridor/dormitory locking that the non-keyed PC10 does not have.
24) Is the Codelocks CL2255 an alternative to the PC10 for a lighter-traffic door?
The Codelocks CL2255 is an electronic tubular mortise latch in the CL2000 Series with a brushed steel finish, rated medium duty. That makes it a simpler, code-entry option, but it is a different service class from the Schlage PC10, which is certified to ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 operational and security standards for commercial use. On a low-traffic interior door where code entry matters more than cycle life, the CL2255 fits; on a commercial corridor sized for Grade 1, the PC10 is the match.
25) What should I use if I need a deadbolt only, with no latch?
The Sargent 4874 is a double cylinder mortise deadbolt with a 2-3/4 inch backset in the 4870 Series - the same 2-3/4 inch backset the Schlage PC10 uses. The Kaba Ilco 185 Series is another mortise deadbolt option with no handing. The PC10 is latchbolt only with no deadbolt, so on an opening that needs a throw bolt these are separate hardware, not a substitute lever function.
