1) Will the Schlage PC40 privacy lock fit a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes. The PC40 is built for 1-3/4 inch doors and the description covers a 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch range with a no-adjustment chassis, so there is nothing to shim or reset in the field. It uses the standard 2-3/4 inch backset and the common cylindrical ANSI 161 door prep, which is what most commercial wood and hollow metal doors are already bored for.
2) Is the Schlage PC40 a mortise lock or a cylindrical lock?
Functionally it installs as a cylindrical lock. It uses the standard cylindrical ANSI 161 door prep with a 2-3/4 inch backset, so you are drilling a bored hole and a latch bore, not routing a mortise pocket.
