The PM Series offers 26 functions, including three electrified, and four mortise deadbolt functions, all made to meet Schlage’s rigorous quality standards. With popular levers and finish options, Schlage's full key system security line up, and its durable design, you can meet needs for both security and style. Schlage PM092ELP NEPA 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Schlage PM092 electric mortise lock fit a 1-3/4 inch door, and what about thicker doors?
1-3/4 inches (44 mm) is the standard door thickness for the PM092, with 1-3/8 inches (35 mm) the minimum. The PM Series case fits doors up to 2-1/2 inches thick, but you have to specify the door thickness and the position of the lock in the door when it is over 1-3/4 inches. Backset is 2-3/4 inches only, so the door and frame prep has to match that.
2) What is the difference between the fail-safe and fail-secure versions of the PM092?
Both are orderable on the PM092. Fail-safe means the outside lever unlocks when power is removed, so the door is free to enter during a power loss (typical for stair doors and other egress-side requirements). Fail-secure means the outside lever stays locked when power drops and you need the key or a powered signal to get in. Pick based on what the code official requires for that opening. Either way the inside lever is a lever trim, and the lock runs on 12 or 24VDC.
3) Do I have to order the PM092 handed, or can it be reversed in the field?
Handing is field reversible on the PM Series mortise lock, so you do not have to commit to a hand on the order. That also means one lock can cover mixed-hand openings in a building if you are standardizing.
4) Does the PM092 come with a cylinder, or do I key it myself?
Depends on which cylinder option you order. B is less SFIC, J is less FSIC, and L is less a conventional 6-pin cylinder, all of which ship without a core for a locksmith to key into an existing system. P comes with a conventional 6-pin cylinder keyed 5, and T ships with an FSIC construction core for use during the build. If your building is already on a Schlage keyway, the less-cylinder options are usually what you want.
5) If the opening does not need to be electrified, what mechanical storeroom mortise lock should I use instead?
For a non-electrified storeroom opening, the Accentra 8805FL from the 8800 series is a Grade 1 storeroom mortise lock with the Arcadia lever, and the Cal-Royal NM8080 is a Grade 1 storeroom mortise lockset with an interchangeable core option for 1-3/4 inch doors. Both give you the same keyed storeroom function as the PM092 without the 12/24VDC wiring, door prep for a transfer hinge, or a power supply.
6) What is the closest equivalent to the Schlage PM092 electric mortise lock from another manufacturer?
The Command Access ML190 series motorized mortise lock (ML19092-M) is the nearest match: it is a heavy-duty storeroom-function mortise lock with field selectable EL/EU operation and 24VDC power, which corresponds to the PM092's electrically locking/unlocking outside lever with fail-safe and fail-secure options. The BEST 45HW wired electromechanical mortise lock is the other close peer, built for 12V/24V operation on a heavy duty mortise body. All three are electrified mortise lock bodies rather than standalone keypad locks.
7) Is an Alarm Lock Trilogy or similar keypad mortise lock a substitute for the PM092?
They solve a different problem. The PM092 is a hard-wired electric mortise lock running on 12/24VDC with fail-safe or fail-secure operation, so it is controlled by an access control panel. The Alarm Lock DL3500CR is a Grade 1 standalone electronic mortise lock with 300 user codes in classroom function, and the DL2700CR is a Trilogy T2 electronic mortise lock with classroom function and a weatherproof design - both are battery-powered keypad locks that manage credentials at the door rather than from a panel. Choose the PM092 when the opening ties into an access control head end.
8) Can I use a Baldwin 6310 mortise lock in place of the PM092?
Check the backset first. The PM092 is 2-3/4 inch backset only, while the Baldwin 6310 entry/storeroom knob-by-knob and the 6310190RRLS lever-by-lever mortise bodies are 2-1/2 inch backset for doors 1-3/8 inch and over. The door prep is not interchangeable, and the Baldwin bodies are mechanical only where the PM092 is a 12/24VDC electric lock. The Baldwin RRLS body is also handed right hand reverse, while the PM092 is field reversible.
9) Can I match the PM092 to the other doors in my building?
The Neptune lever is the trim style on this one, and PM Series mortise locks share lever and rose styles with Schlage PT Series tubular locks, so a corridor of mortise and tubular openings can look the same. Six finishes are offered: 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 619 Satin Nickel, 622 Matte Black, 625 Bright Chrome, 626 Satin Chrome, and 643E Aged Bronze. The PM Series is also made to suite with other Allegion products for keying and appearance.
10) Is the PM092 tough enough for a high-traffic commercial entry?
It is a Grade 1 commercial mortise lock. The case is cold rolled steel with corrosion resistant zinc dichromate plating, measuring 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches (113 x 154 x 25 mm), and the latch is stainless steel. That is the right class of lock for retail, multifamily, hospitality and commercial corridor traffic.
11) Does the PM092 have a deadbolt?
The PM092 is a latchbolt function with an electrically controlled outside lever and outside cylinder. Levers operate the latchbolt from either side, and the inside lever is always free. Where the PM Series does include a deadbolt, the throw is 1 inch stainless steel, but if you specifically need a deadbolting mortise function, order one of the PM Series mortise deadbolt functions rather than the PM092.
12) What credentialed alternative should I look at if I want card or mobile access rather than a wired lever?
For credential reading at the door, the Schlage Electronics LEMD-GRW is a Grade 1 ENGAGE series wireless mortise lock with a 125kHz proximity reader and mobile-enabled operation, carrying a 3 hour fire rating with Greenwich trim. The TownSteel FME-2000 is a Grade 1 heavy duty classroom mortise lockset with RFID for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Accentra nexTouch NTM623-NR adds a capacitive touchscreen keypad with cylinder override. The PM092 has no reader of its own - it is switched by whatever access control device you mount separately.
13) The opening needs a classroom or office function instead of storeroom - what mortise lock covers that?
The PM092 is storeroom function, so for other functions look at the Corbin Russwin ML2003, a Grade 1 mortise classroom lockset for 1-3/4 inch doors, or the Cal-Royal NM8070 classroom and NM8050 office/entrance mortise locksets, both Grade 1 heavy duty with an auxiliary deadlatch. For a corridor or dormitory opening, the Sargent 7925 is a Grade 1 heavy duty dormitory exit function mortise lock with rose trim and a single cylinder deadbolt.
14) What matches the PM092's 2-3/4 inch backset if I need a different function on the same door prep?
The Hager 3800 series shares the 2-3/4 inch backset: the 3810S Grade 1 passage mortise lock with rose and the 3810E with escutcheon both cover doors 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/2 inch, the 3850E is a non-keyed office function with lever and escutcheon, and the 3840S is a Grade 1 privacy lock for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors. The Sargent 4874 double cylinder mortise deadbolt is also 2-3/4 inch backset if the opening needs deadbolt-only security beside the latch.
15) I only need the mortise lock body, not a complete lockset with lever and trim - what should I order?
The PM092 ships as a complete electric mortise lock with a Neptune lever and your choice of A, C, D rose or N escutcheon. If you are replacing only the case behind existing trim, the BEST 45H series heavy duty mortise lock body in public entrance function and the 45HCA heavy duty lockbody with intruder function are sold as bodies, and the 45H body is field reversible like the PM092. Confirm the existing trim's hub and spindle before ordering a body alone.
16) Will an Emtek Brisbane or Manhattan mortise entrance set work where the PM092 goes?
No. The Emtek 3019 Brisbane, 3102 Memphis, 3104 Hamilton and 3106 Manhattan mortise entrance locksets are dummy function - they mount trim only and do not latch or lock. The PM092 is a Grade 1 keyed storeroom mortise lock with an electrically controlled outside lever, so it operates a working latch on a commercial opening. Use the Emtek sets only on an inactive leaf.
17) For a behavioral health or ligature-resistant opening, is there a mortise alternative to the PM092?
Yes. The TownSteel MRX-L-01 is a Grade 1 heavy duty anti-ligature lever mortise lockset in stainless steel with passage function for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the MRX-A-01 is the same passage function with ligature resistant arch trim. The Marks USA 5PDN is a Grade 1 hospital passage mortise push/pull paddleset that is ligature resistant and ADA compliant in satin stainless. These are passage function rather than the PM092's keyed storeroom operation.
18) How does the PM092 compare with a Schlage CO-100 or LE series electronic mortise lock?
The PM092 is a hard-wired 12/24VDC Grade 1 storeroom lock with fail-safe or fail-secure outside lever control. The Schlage CO-100-MS-40-KP is a standalone Grade 1 heavy duty electronic mortise lock in privacy function with a keypad reader for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the LEBMB-ADD is a Grade 2 mobile-enabled mortise lock with push button and LED covering privacy, office and apartment functions with a 3 hour fire rating. The CO and LE locks carry their own credential handling at the door; the PM092 does not.
19) If I want a keypad or credential reader instead of wiring to an access control panel, what should I look at?
The PM092 is a wired electric lock that takes its signal from an access control system, not a standalone reader. For credential-at-the-door instead, ZenSupply carries the Schlage Electronics CO-100 mortise lock with keypad reader (Grade 1, 1-3/4 inch doors) and the Schlage LEMD-GRW ENGAGE wireless mortise lock with a 125kHz proximity reader. TownSteel's FME-2000 Grade 1 mortise lockset with RFID is another route for 1-3/4 inch doors.
