1) What's the difference between the 125 A and 225 A Homeline convertible main lug load centers?
Two amperage ratings are offered on the Homeline convertible main lug PoN load center: 125 A as HOM1224L125PGCVP and 225 A as HOM3060L225PGCVP. The 125 A unit is the smaller panel, suited to subpanels and lighter residential loads; the 225 A unit carries a much larger circuit capacity and is the one to use for a full service or a heavier commercial distribution panel. Pick the amperage from the feeder and load calculation, not from the enclosure size you have room for.
2) Can a Homeline convertible main lug load center be used as a main breaker panel?
Yes. The convertible design means the panel ships as main lug only but accepts a factory main breaker kit to convert it to a main breaker panel, so the same enclosure can serve as a service entrance panel or as a downstream subpanel fed from an upstream breaker. The main breaker is a separate item and is not included with the load center. Match the breaker kit to the panel's amperage, 125 A or 225 A.

5) What does PoN or plug-on neutral mean on a Homeline panel, and why does an electrician care?
Plug-on neutral puts the neutral connection on a bus bar that the breaker snaps onto, so a combination AFCI or GFCI breaker makes its neutral connection when it seats instead of through a pigtail wire to the neutral bar. That removes a wire, a terminal screw, and a common failure point on every AFCI or GFCI circuit, and it cleans up the gutter space considerably on a panel where code requires AFCI protection on most branch circuits. It also cuts labor noticeably on a panel you are filling with dual-function breakers.
6) Is a Homeline convertible main lug panel suitable for multi-family or light commercial work, or is it residential only?

A main lug load center ships as the enclosure, interior, and lug connections. For a subpanel you still need the Homeline branch breakers to fill it, and in most subpanel installations a separate ground bar kit, since the neutral and ground must be kept isolated downstream of the service disconnect. If you intend to run it as a service panel instead, add the convertible main breaker kit matched to the panel amperage. A cover or trim configuration appropriate to flush or surface mounting is also part of the order on a finished-wall install.
