The screw is 18-8 stainless steel, the common austenitic grade used for general corrosion resistance. That makes it suitable for damp interior work, wash-down areas, and typical outdoor exposure where a plated carbon steel screw would rust. For direct salt spray or coastal marine service, a 316 stainless fastener is the better choice.

Each jar holds 100 of the 1/4-20 x 2 inch oval head screws. The jar pack is the standard shop or service-truck quantity, so a single order covers repeated panel, cover, and strap work without rebuying per job.

An oval head seats into an 82 degree countersink like a flat head, but the top of the head is domed, so it finishes slightly raised above the surface rather than dead flush. Use it where you want a countersunk seat with a finished look, such as cover plates and trim. If you need a truly flush face, specify a flat head instead; if the hole is not countersunk, a pan or truss head is the right pick.

It is a machine screw. The threads are uniform 1/4-20 machine threads with a blunt end, so the screw requires a tapped hole, a nut, or a threaded insert. A sheet metal or tapping screw has a sharper, coarser thread that forms its own and is the part to order if you are fastening into unthreaded sheet.
