Metallics JSS812 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the JSS812 a socket set screw with a cup point?
Yes. The JSS812 is a socket set screw with a cup point, so it is driven with a hex key rather than a screwdriver and it bites into the mating surface to resist loosening. Cup point is the general purpose set screw point for clamping a conductor, shaft or collar in place.
2) What material and finish are these Metallics 8-32 set screws?
Steel with a black finish. That is a plain carbon steel set screw, suited to indoor and enclosure use; it is not a stainless or corrosion resistant screw, so for wet or outdoor locations choose a stainless set screw of the same 8-32 x 1/2 size instead.
3) How many screws come in a jar of Metallics JSS812?
Each jar holds 100 of the 8-32 x 1/2 inch socket set screws. Metallics packages these in a jar rather than a box, which is why electricians and MRO stockrooms keep them on a shelf as a loose-count consumable for replacing lost or stripped set screws.
