Securitron AQE30E – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Securitron AQE30E power a 12V door strike or maglock from a PoE switch?
That is what the AQE30E is built for. It takes a PoE input of 42.5 to 57VDC and converts it to a 12VDC output for a device that has no PoE capability of its own, so a 12V lock, strike, door controller or camera runs off your network switch instead of a separate transformer. Output is selectable at 13W or 25W, which is your real limit: add up the holding current of the lock plus anything else on that leg and stay under the wattage you select.
2) Does my PoE switch need to be 802.3at for the Securitron AQE30E?
Plan on it. The AQE30E is listed for 30W IEEE 802.3at, which is the PoE+ class, and drawing the full 25W output requires that class of source. An 802.3af port will not carry a 25W load. Input current is 0.6A.
3) Is the AQE30E extractor UL listed for access control use?
It carries UL 294B Listing, which is the access control power standard, along with UL/CUL 60950-1 and CSA C22.2 No. 205-M1983 for signal equipment. It is also RoHS compliant. That combination is what a spec normally calls for on a card reader or electrified lock circuit in a commercial building.
4) How do I set 13W versus 25W output on the AQE extractor?
Power level is selected at the unit itself. The AQE30E provides RJ45 connectors for data in and data out plus two terminal strips, one for the DC output and one for power level selection, so you pick 13W or 25W on that strip when you land the wiring. An on-board LED gives you visual diagnostics while you commission it, and a reset feature lets you shut down the PoE feed.
5) Will a PoE extractor slow down the camera or controller on the same run?
No. The AQE30E passes data at 10/100/1000 Base-T, so a gigabit camera or IP door controller keeps full gigabit throughput while the module strips power off the same cable. Data comes in on one RJ45 and out on the other.
6) Can I mount a PoE extractor in an unconditioned space like a parking garage or attic?
Check the temperature band first. The AQE30E is rated 0 to +49C, so an unheated garage in a cold climate or a hot attic can fall outside it. Interior corridors, IDF closets and conditioned equipment rooms are within range.
7) How many devices will one Securitron AQE30E run?
One. It is a single port extractor, so it handles one PoE input and one 12VDC output. If you have two cameras or two door positions to power, you need a unit per drop or a multi-port power supply instead.
8) Does the AQE30E need batteries or a separate transformer?
Neither. Power comes entirely over the Ethernet cable from the PoE source, and the unit is not battery operated. If you want the device to stay up during an outage, the backup has to sit at the switch or on the upstream supply, not at the extractor.
