1) What is the difference between the Securitron AQE15 and AQE30 PoE injectors?
Power budget is the difference. The AQE15 is the 15W IEEE 802.3af version, drawing 1.4 amps input and delivering 300mA at 50VDC. The AQE30 is the 30W IEEE 802.3at version, drawing 2.6 amps input and delivering 600mA at 50VDC. Pick the 1.4 A model for standard 802.3af loads like a card reader controller or a fixed camera; pick the 2.6 A model for 802.3at devices such as PTZ cameras or multi-door controllers that need the higher budget.
2) Can I run a PoE camera or door controller off my existing 24V access control power supply?
That is exactly what the AQE Series single port injector does. It takes low voltage 24VAC or 24VDC input (plus or minus 15 percent) from a non-PoE source such as an access control power supply and injects PoE onto the Ethernet run, so PoE cameras, door controllers and other PoE equipment can be powered without a PoE switch. Both power options accept either AC or DC at that input.
3) How far can I run the Ethernet cable from the AQE injector to the PoE device?
100 meters, 328 feet, is the maximum data cable length on the AQE injector. That is the total channel from the injector to the powered device, so plan the head end location accordingly. The unit is 10/100/1000 Base-T compliant, so it will not throttle a gigabit camera or controller on the run.
4) Is the Securitron AQE injector UL listed for access control use?
It carries UL 294B listing, which is the PoE power source standard for access control, along with UL/CUL 60950-1 and CSA C22.2 No.205-M1983 for signal equipment. It is also RoHS compliant. For a spec that calls for a UL 294B listed power source on the door, the AQE meets it.
5) Can I remotely drop power to a PoE device with the AQE injector?
Yes, through the shutdown terminals. They accept a 5 to 24VDC signal at 10mA max to cut PoE output, which lets an access control panel or fire alarm interface reboot or kill a camera or controller without anyone going to the closet. An on board LED gives visual diagnostics so a tech can confirm the state at the injector.
6) How many devices can one Securitron AQE injector power?
One. The AQE is a single port midspan injector, so it powers a single PoE device per unit. If you have four PoE cameras or four door controllers at a location, you need four injectors or a PoE switch instead. The single port approach is what you want when only one or two openings on an otherwise non-PoE system need power and data.
7) What input current do I need to size my power supply for on an AQE injector?
Size the upstream 24V supply for 1.4 amps if you are using the 802.3af version, or 2.6 amps for the 802.3at version, and add headroom for anything else sharing that supply.
