The heavy-duty, tamper-resistant Concealed Electrical Power Transfer (CEPT) securely transfers power and data from the hinge side of the frame to electrified hardware on the door. The unit is discreetly concealed between the frame and door when the door is closed. Available in three multi-wire configurations and four finishes, the CEPT

1) How far will my door open with a Securitron CEPT installed, and does hinge size change that?
Hinge size sets the swing. With a butt hinge of 5 inches or less the CEPT allows 0 to 180 degrees. Step up to a 5-1/2 inch butt hinge and you are limited to 0 to 130 degrees; a 6 inch butt hinge or a 3/4 inch offset pivot drops it to 0 to 110 degrees. If the opening needs a full 180 degree swing, the hinge has to be 5 inches or under.
2) Where does the CEPT mount on the door and frame, and what has to be prepped?
The CEPT mortises into the edge of the door and the matching edge of the frame on the hinge side, and it installs above the second hinge. When the door is closed the unit sits hidden between door and frame, so nothing is visible. Plan the mortise around a unit measuring 9 x 1.2 x 1.03 inches. The metal back boxes carry 7/8 inch knockouts, which take EMT-type fittings for your conduit run.
3) Which CEPT wire configuration do I need for an electric strike plus a mag lock and a request-to-exit switch?
Order the 10 wire version. The CEPT comes concealed with 10 wires, concealed with 9 wires, concealed with no wires, or with ElectroLynx connectors. The 10 wire configuration includes two 18 gauge conductors for higher-current devices, which is what an electrified lock or strike draws, leaving the remaining smaller conductors for monitoring and request-to-exit signalling. The no-wire version is for running your own cable through the transfer.
4) What is a straight equivalent to the Securitron CEPT concealed power transfer if I need more than 10 conductors to the door?
Step up to a 12-conductor electric power transfer. The Precision Hardware (PHI) EPT-12C carries 12 conductors with quick-connect terminations, and BEST sells the same 12-conductor quick-connect unit as the EPT-12C series. The Securitron CEPT tops out at a 10-wire configuration, so on an opening where you are running an electrified lock, a request-to-exit switch, a door position switch and a monitored strike all off one transfer, the 12-conductor EPT is the one that has the wire count. If 10 wires cover the load, the CEPT stays in play and brings its 2 conductors of 18 gauge for higher current devices.
5) I only need to power a single electrified lock. Is there a simpler electric power transfer than the Securitron CEPT?
Yes. The BEST EPT-2 is a 2-conductor electric power transfer with armored flex conduit, which is the minimum configuration for a single powered device such as an electrified mortise lock or an electric strike. The Securitron CEPT is built around multi-wire configurations of 9 and 10 wires plus a CAT-5E option, so a low-conductor-count opening does not use what it is carrying. Where the CEPT still earns its place on a simple opening is concealment and tamper resistance: it mortises into the door and frame edges with no exposed openings, while the EPT-2 runs its conductors in armored flex conduit.
6) The opening has a center-hung door. What electric power transfer should I use instead of the Securitron CEPT?
Use an exposed loop-style transfer rather than the CEPT. The CEPT will only function with butt hinges up to 6 inches and will not work on center-hung or balanced doors, because it depends on the door swinging around a conventional hinge axis to keep the concealed body aligned between frame and door edge. The BEST EPT-2 with armored flex conduit and the BEST EPT-5 5-conductor unit with stainless steel housing both bridge frame to door through a flexible armored path instead of a mortised concealed body. 7) I need to run network data to a device on the door, not just power. Which transfer handles that?

8) What is the ElectroLynx version of the CEPT for, and do I need it?
The ElectroLynx option puts quick-connect plug connectors on the transfer instead of loose wire leads, so it lands straight onto ElectroLynx-equipped electrified hardware without field splicing. If your electrified lock, hinge or exit device trim is ElectroLynx ready, order the CEPT that way and the connection is plug and play. If you are terminating to bare leads or into a junction box, the standard 9 or 10 wire version is the one to take. CAT-5E connectors are also available where the door hardware carries data rather than just power.
9) Is a concealed power transfer better than a surface-mounted armored loop for my opening?
A concealed transfer like the CEPT is the choice where you can mortise both the door edge and the frame, and where you want nothing visible or reachable at the opening. It has no exposed openings, so foreign objects cannot get to the wires or jam it, and the housing and back boxes are all metal with no plastic. 11) Are the BEST EPT-12C and the Precision EPT-12C the same part?
