1) Does the SharkBite U702 Safe Seal tool work on copper, CPVC and PEX, or just PEX?
All three. The U702 handles copper, CPVC and PEX in any combination, which matches how SharkBite push-fit fittings are used on transition connections. So one tool covers a rough-in that mixes copper stubs with PEX runs.
2) What pipe sizes does the U702 deburring and depth gauge cover?
It is sized for 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch and 1 inch tubing, with gauge positions for each. Anything above 1 inch is outside what this tool marks or deburrs.
3) Why do I need a depth gauge if I am just pushing the fitting on?
Because a push-fit seal only completes when the pipe is fully home. The U702's built-in gauge lets you mark the insertion depth on the pipe before you push, so you can see the mark disappear at the fitting shoulder instead of guessing. On a 1/2, 3/4 or 1 inch line that mark is the difference between a seated O-ring and a slow weep behind a wall.

6) Does the U702 remove SharkBite fittings, or do I need a separate disconnect clip?
The U702 is a pipe-prep tool only, a deburring edge plus insertion-depth gauge. It does not release a seated push-fit fitting. For removal you need a SharkBite disconnect clip or tongs in the matching tube size.
7) Does the U702 cut pipe as well?
No cutting function. You cut with a tube cutter or PEX shears first, then use the U702 to clean the burr off the outside of the cut and mark the insertion depth. It replaces separate gauges and deburring tools, not the cutter.
