Thomas & Betts LXOWC-25 Switch Boxes

That's exactly what it's built for. The LXOWC-25 comes with C-3 armored cable clamps and is intended for armored/metal clad cable runs. There are two cable knockouts in the bottom feeding those clamps, so you can bring a home run in and a switch leg out without adding connectors.

Old work. The LXOWC-25 is meant for retrofit into existing finished walls rather than being nailed to a stud before drywall goes up. If you're roughing in a new wall, you want a new work bracket or nail-on box instead.

The LXOWC-25 has 12.5 cubic inches of volume. Under NEC box fill, that's eight 14 AWG conductors or seven 12 AWG at 2.0 and 2.25 cubic inches each before you subtract for the device, clamps, and grounds. A single-pole switch fed with one 14/2 MC and one 14/2 MC out fits; stacking three cables or a pair of devices does not. Step up to a deeper or two-gang box for those.

The box body measures 3 inches long by 2 inches wide with a 2-1/2 inch depth, so you need roughly 2 inches of clear cavity behind the drywall plus room for the cable clamps. The 2-1/2 inch depth is the deep single-gang size, so check for blocking or insulation before you commit the cut.

There's conduit provision on three faces: one 1/2 inch knockout in the bottom and one 1/2 inch knockout on each side. That covers a straight-through run or a feed in and out. Note the clamps in the box are armored cable clamps, so a conduit connector goes in the knockout on its own locknut.

UL listed, per the manufacturer's own certification data. Body is steel with a galvanized finish and welded seams rather than a folded or crimped corner, which is what keeps the box square when you're pulling armored cable through it and keeps the equipment grounding path continuous.

Orders go in multiples of 25, which is the carton quantity, even though the box is priced and sold as each. For a contractor doing a floor of tenant switch replacements that's a normal pull; for a one-off repair it means you'll be holding spares.

No. The LXOWC-25 is not RoHS compliant, which matters if you're buying against a green building spec or a purchasing policy that screens for it. If your project requires RoHS documentation on all material, this galvanized steel box won't satisfy that line item.
