Blackburn 32015TL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What conductor sizes does the Blackburn 32015TL tandem lug take?
The 32015TL is a two-barrel (tandem) mechanical lug rated for 300 through 500 kcmil conductors, one cable per barrel. If your run is smaller than 300 kcmil or larger than 500, this is the wrong lug body, since mechanical connectors only hold within their marked range.
2) What bolt hole size does this Blackburn tandem lug have, and will it land on a 1/2 inch stud?
The pad is drilled for 1/2 inch bolt hardware, so it lands directly on a 1/2 inch ground bus stud, breaker pad, or transformer terminal. Mounting hardware is not part of the lug itself.
3) Is the 32015TL copper or aluminum, and can I use it on aluminum conductors?
It is a copper-bodied lug. Copper-only connectors are marked for copper conductors; if you are terminating aluminum or running a mixed install, you need a connector marked AL9CU or dual-rated instead of a plain copper body.
4) Does the Blackburn 32015TL carry a UL listing for inspection?
Yes. It is covered under UL file E9809, which is the reference an inspector or spec reviewer will want for a listed mechanical connector.
5) What does "plain" mean on the 32015TL lug, and does it matter for a panel or service install?
Plain means the copper body is supplied bare, with no tin plating or other coating. Bare copper is normal for copper-to-copper connections inside dry enclosures; for copper-to-aluminum landings or damp and outdoor locations, crews typically specify a plated or tin-coated lug and add an appropriate joint compound.
6) Why use a tandem lug instead of two separate single-barrel lugs?
A tandem lug puts two conductor barrels on one bolt pad, so you land two 300-500 kcmil cables using a single 1/2 inch hole. That is the move when a bus or breaker pad only gives you one drilled hole per phase and you have parallel feeders. If each cable has its own hole available, two single-barrel lugs are simpler to service.
7) Is the Blackburn 32015TL sold individually or in a pack?
It is sold each, one lug per unit. For a three-phase plus neutral set of parallel feeders, count your pads and order accordingly.
8) What is the exact part number and country of origin for this tandem lug?
Blackburn part number 32015TL, manufactured in Mexico. That MPN is what to quote for procurement or submittal paperwork.
