1) My cord measures exactly 1.065 inches. Should I order the 2218 or the 2219?
1.065 inches is the top of the 2218 range and the bottom of the 2219 range, so either will technically close on it. Practically, go with the 2218 so the grip is compressing near the top of its travel rather than barely engaging at the bottom of the larger bushing. If your cord jacket is oval or varies along its length, measure at the thickest point before deciding.
2) Is this cord connector suitable for a wet or washdown location?
It is a liquid-tight cord connector, so the gland seals around the cord jacket to keep liquid out of the enclosure where the cord enters. That makes it the right choice for washdown areas, outdoor equipment and wet process rooms, provided the cord jacket OD falls in the range of the part you order (.880 to 1.065 inches for 2218, 1.065 to 1.205 inches for 2219) and the hub connection is made up tight.
3) Can I use this connector for strain relief on a portable cord feeding a motor or machine?
That is what a cord grip is for. The gland clamps the cord jacket so pulling on the cord loads the fitting instead of the terminations inside the box, and the 45 degree body lets the cord leave at an angle without a hard bend at the seal. Match the part to the jacket OD: 2218 for .880 to 1.065 inches, 2219 for 1.065 to 1.205 inches.
4) What is the body made of, and will it hold up in an industrial plant?
The body is malleable iron with a metallic finish. Malleable iron takes mechanical abuse on machine frames, conveyors and plant floors far better than a plastic or die cast gland, and being metal it maintains the metallic path through the fitting to the enclosure. For heavy corrosive chemical exposure a non-metallic gland is the usual alternative.
