TOTO THP5245#CP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the TOTO THP5245#CP a complete shower valve, or just the trim?
THP5245#CP is trim only, the square handle and escutcheon that finish a thermostatic on/off valve for shower and tub service. The valve body itself is a separate purchase, so if you are roughing in a new wall you need the thermostatic valve body in addition to this trim kit. On a refresh where the valve is already in the wall and only the visible plate and handle are being changed, trim alone is what you want.
2) What does the on/off function on this TOTO thermostatic trim actually control?
It is an on/off control paired with thermostatic temperature control, so the handle starts and stops flow while the thermostatic element holds the set temperature. In practice that means volume and temperature are handled at separate points rather than by one mixing handle, which is why these are usually specified where a hotel or multi-family operator wants a repeatable shower temperature across rooms.
3) Will the square TOTO THP5245#CP trim match round shower trim already installed?
No. THP5245#CP is square trim, so the escutcheon and handle geometry will not visually match round TOTO trim on adjacent openings. If you are standardizing a building's bathrooms, pick one geometry and stay with it; for a single-room repair, confirm what shape is on the wall before ordering this one.
4) Can I use this TOTO trim on a tub and shower combination?
Yes, the trim is listed for shower and tub use. Keep in mind it is the on/off and thermostatic control point only; a tub spout diverter or shower diverter, if the layout needs one, is a separate item on the order.
5) What finish does TOTO THP5245#CP come in?
Polished chrome, which is what the #CP suffix on the TOTO part number designates. It is the only finish offered under this part number, so a brushed nickel or matte black shower would need a different TOTO suffix rather than this one.
