TOTO THP5245#PN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the TOTO THP5245 square thermostatic trim include the valve body, or do I need to order that separately?
THP5245 is trim only. It is the square escutcheon and on/off thermostatic handle set that mounts over a rough-in valve body, so the valve itself has to be ordered separately and roughed into the wall before the trim goes on. Plan the job that way: valve at rough-in, trim at finish.
2) Can the TOTO THP5245 on/off thermo trim be used on both a shower and a tub/shower?
Yes. The THP5245 trim is specified for shower and tub applications, so it suits a shower-only valve or a tub and shower combination, provided the rough-in valve behind the wall is the matching TOTO thermostatic body and the tub spout or shower outlets are handled by that valve.
3) What is the difference between an on/off thermostatic trim and a pressure balance shower trim?
A thermostatic trim like the THP5245 pairs with a thermostatic mixing valve that holds the outlet temperature you dial in, and the second control simply turns flow on and off. A pressure balance trim uses a single cartridge that reacts to pressure changes only, so temperature drifts with supply temperature. For multi-family or hospitality work where you want a repeatable set temperature at each fixture, the thermostatic route is the one to spec; for a straightforward single-shower replacement, pressure balance trim is simpler and uses fewer parts.
4) Will the TOTO THP5245 square trim match my existing round TOTO shower trim?
No, the THP5245 is a square trim plate and handle, so it will not visually match round TOTO escutcheons already on other openings. If you are standardizing a building or a bathroom group, pick one shape family and stay with it; for a single replacement next to round trim, look for the round version of the same TOTO thermostatic trim instead.
5) How many functions does the TOTO THP5245 thermostatic trim control?
Two controls: a thermostatic temperature control and a separate on/off volume control. It does not divert, so if your shower has a hand shower plus a head, or multiple body spray zones, you need a separate diverter or volume trim in addition to this one.
6) What is the TOTO part number I should quote for the square on/off thermostatic trim?
Order it as TOTO THP5245#PN. The base number THP5245 identifies the square on/off thermostatic trim and the suffix after the hash is the finish code, so quote the full string including the suffix to avoid getting the wrong finish on a multi-bath order.
