Toto ON OFF THERMO TRIM, SQUARE THP5246#CP

THP5246#CP is trim only, the square escutcheon and handle set for a two-way thermostatic valve. The valve body itself is a separate purchase, so you need the matching TOTO thermostatic rough-in valve behind the wall to make a working assembly. Ordering the trim alone leaves you without the mixing cartridge and the connections.

Two-way means the trim controls two outlets, so one handle set turns flow on and off and directs it between two destinations, for example a shower head and a tub spout or a hand shower. If your layout only feeds a single outlet, you want a single-way thermostatic trim instead.

Yes. The trim is specified for shower and tub use, which is what the two-way configuration is built around: temperature held by the thermostatic cartridge and flow switched between the tub filler and the shower outlet.

A thermostatic setup holds the outlet temperature steady with its own sensing cartridge and keeps volume and temperature on separate controls, which is why it suits tub and shower installations where someone is filling a tub while a shower runs. A pressure balance valve only reacts to pressure swings between hot and cold, and gives you one handle for both temperature and flow. THP5246#CP is the square-styled thermostatic trim, so plan on a thermostatic rough-in behind it.

The plate is square, so whether it covers depends on the wall opening left by the old trim. A square plate will conceal a round cutout of smaller diameter, but it will not hide a larger round escutcheon footprint, and this trim is designed to mount on a TOTO thermostatic valve body rather than another brand's rough-in. On a brand change, plan on replacing the valve and opening the wall.

The #CP suffix on the part number is TOTO's polished chrome. It is the only finish this trim is built in, so if the rest of the bathroom is brushed nickel or matte black you will need a different TOTO trim part number rather than a finish option on this one.
