TOTO THP4887#CP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is TOTO THP4887#CP and what does it do?
THP4887#CP is a TOTO repair part: a spout elbow assembly with diverter and knob for a 4-hole Roman tub installation. The diverter is what redirects water from the tub spout up to the handshower or shower outlet, so this is the piece you order when the diverter knob fails or the elbow behind the spout leaks, not a complete faucet.
2) Is the TOTO THP4887 a complete Roman tub faucet or just a replacement part?
Just a part. The THP4887 covers the spout elbow assembly with the diverter and knob for a 4-hole Roman tub set. Handles, valves, trim plates and the spout body itself are separate items, so if you are building a new Roman tub installation from scratch you need the full faucet package rather than this assembly.
3) Will the THP4887 work on a 3-hole deck-mount tub faucet?
No. The THP4887 elbow assembly is built for a 4-hole Roman tub layout, which is the configuration with two handles, a deck-mount spout, and a separate handshower or diverter hole. A 3-hole deck set has no dedicated diverter/handshower port, so this assembly has nowhere to land. Match the replacement part to the original TOTO faucet model on the deck.
4) What finish is the TOTO THP4887#CP diverter knob?
The #CP suffix on the part number is TOTO's polished chrome code, so the knob and visible trim come chrome. If the rest of your tub deck is brushed nickel or another finish, the chrome knob will not match, and you would need the same assembly in the corresponding TOTO finish suffix.
5) I manage apartments with TOTO Roman tub fillers and the shower diverter stopped pulling water up. Is this the right repair part?
If the failure is at the diverter itself, yes. The THP4887 assembly includes both the diverter and the knob along with the spout elbow, so a diverter that no longer holds flow to the handshower, or one whose knob has stripped, is handled by this one part. If instead the problem is low flow at both outlets or a drip at the handles, the fault is upstream in the valves and this assembly will not fix it.
6) Can I use the THP4887 on a wall-mounted tub and shower valve?
No. This elbow assembly is a deck-mount Roman tub component, intended for a spout that sits on the tub deck or platform in a 4-hole layout. A wall-mounted tub and shower valve uses an in-wall diverter built into the valve body or a diverter tub spout, which is a different part entirely.
