Trimco TRI-1001-1.630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Trimco 1001-1 push plate work on a door that has a cylinder or a night latch in the push side?
That's what the Cut for Cylinder option is for. The 1001-1 is ordered either plain or CFC, and the CFC version comes machined with the cylinder hole so the plate drops over an existing cylinder instead of forcing you to notch it in the field. Every finish is offered both ways, so you pick the finish first and then the CFC answer. Order plain for a straight push side with no cylinder through the plate.
2) What size is the Trimco 1001-1 push plate, and what other sizes does the 1001 Series come in?
The 1001-1 is the 3 inch by 12 inch plate. The rest of the 1001 Series runs 3-1/2 x 15, 4 x 16, 6 x 16 and 8 x 16 inches, with custom sizes made to order. If you're covering a wider area of scuffing or a larger glass-front push stile, step up to one of the 16 inch plates; the 3 x 12 suits a narrow stile or a light-traffic interior door.
3) Does the Trimco 1001-1 push plate meet ADA requirements for a barrier-free opening?
ADA compliant, yes. A push plate is the accessible choice on a push side because it needs no grasping, pinching or twisting to operate. The 1001-1 carries the ADA compliant designation in its specs.
4) Should I use a push plate or a door pull on this door?
Push plate on the push side, pull on the pull side. The 1001 is a flat plate with no projection, so it protects the door face from hands and carts but gives nothing to grab, which is why it goes on the side that swings away from you. On the pull side you want a handle: the Ives 8103HD heavy duty straight pull is a 1 inch round with through bolt mounting, and the Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset ADA compliant pull. Through-bolting a pull opposite a push plate is the standard commercial pairing.
5) I have a cylinder night latch on the door. Is a cut-for-cylinder push plate the right part, or do I need a cylinder pull?
Two different parts. The 1001 CFC is a flat plate with a hole for the cylinder, so it protects the door face while letting the key reach the cylinder; there is nothing to grip. If the buyer actually needs to pull the door open by the cylinder area, that's a night latch pull instead, such as the Cal-Royal PUL-175, a 3-1/2 inch high stainless steel night latch cylinder pull. Specify the CFC plate when a separate pull already exists or the door is push side only.
6) What pull pairs with a Trimco 1001-1 push plate on the opposite face of the door?
The Trimco 1001-1 is a 3" x 12" flat push plate in .050" stainless steel, brass, bronze or aluminum, so it only serves the push side of the opening; the pull face needs a separate handle. Common commercial pairings are the Ives 8103HD Heavy Duty Straight Door Pull, a 1" round bar with through bolt mounting, or the Ives 8102HD Heavy Duty Straight Door Pull with a 3/4" round bar and 1-1/2" clearance. Both are heavy duty pulls, matching the duty of the .050" plate for schools, public buildings and other commercial traffic.
7) If the door needs a cylinder on the push side, is the Trimco 1001 cut for cylinder the right part or is a cylinder pull better?
The Trimco 1001 heavy duty push plate is offered with a cut for cylinder option, so the plate itself can be ordered prepped to pass a cylinder through the push face in any of its finishes, from 605 bright brass to 630 satin stainless steel. Where the cylinder belongs on the pull side of the opening instead, the Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2" in height and stainless steel construction, that carries the cylinder in a handle rather than a flat plate. The choice follows which face of the door the night latch cylinder is being mounted on.
8) Is the Trimco 1001 push plate thick enough for a school or hospital corridor door?
Material is .050 inch stainless steel, brass, bronze or aluminum, which is the heavy duty gauge rather than the thin builder-grade stock, and the line is specified for schools, public buildings, commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, and multifamily. The plate is rated commercial, not residential. For a plastic plate the series offers a 1/8 inch option instead.
9) How does the Trimco 1001-1 push plate mount, and are the screws included?
Surface mounted with oval head screws, supplied standard with the plate. All four edges are pencil beveled so the plate sits without a sharp exposed edge along the stile. Nothing else is required to hang it on a prepped door face, and Trimco publishes a 1001 Series template for laying out the screw holes.
10) What is the center-to-center dimension on the Trimco 1001 push plate?
Center-to-center is 3 inches on the 1001. That matters when you're mounting a pull on the opposite face and want the fasteners to miss each other, or when you're matching hole layout to an existing plate on the other doors in the run.
11) Which finishes does the Trimco 1001 push plate come in if I need to match the rest of the hardware in the building?
Ten finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 626 satin chrome, 628 satin aluminum, 629 bright stainless steel, 630 satin stainless steel, and 710CU Healthy Hardware Steralloy Silver. All ten are offered with or without the cylinder cut. 630 satin stainless is the usual match for commercial lever and exit hardware; 626 satin chrome matches older brass-base commercial trim.
12) The Deltana SSP1210 is also 12 inches. Can it be used in place of a Trimco 1001-1?
They are different parts despite sharing a 12 inch dimension. The Trimco 1001-1 is a 3" x 12" flat push plate, .050" thick and pencil beveled on all four edges, that sits flush against the door face for pushing. The Deltana SSP1210 is a 12" contemporary pull, single side, meaning a projecting handle the hand wraps around. A flat push plate presents no graspable surface, so the SSP1210 substitutes for a pull, not for the 1001-1's push face.
13) What should be used with a Trimco 1001-1 push plate on an ADA opening?
The Trimco 1001-1 push plate is ADA compliant and commercial rated, and a flat plate needs no grasping or twisting to operate. To keep the pull face consistent with that, the Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset door pull with heavy duty mounting hardware from the ADA compliant EZ series. Pairing the 1001-1 push plate with the 8145EZHD gives both faces of the opening hardware described as ADA compliant.
14) For a door that gets pushed and pulled from both sides, what goes on instead of a Trimco 1001-1 push plate?
The Trimco 1001-1 is a single face push plate, so a door worked from both directions needs matched hardware on each face rather than one plate. Back-to-back sets cover that in one part number: the Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24" back-to-back modern offset door pull set and the Deltana SSPORBB24 is the 24" back-to-back round offset version, while the Deltana OHP620 off-set handle pull comes as a back-to-back set for doors 1-1/8" to 1-3/8" thick. A back-to-back set is fastened through the door, where the 1001-1 mounts to one face with the oval head screws it is supplied with.
15) What is the 710CU Healthy Hardware finish on the Trimco 1001 plate?
710CU Steralloy Silver is Trimco's Healthy Hardware finish, and the 1001 carries the Healthy Hardware designation. It's the finish to specify on high-touch openings in healthcare, schools and food service, where the push plate is the single most-handled surface on the door. Ordered exactly like any other finish, plain or cut for cylinder.
16) What material is the Trimco 1001-1 push plate, and does the finish change the base metal?
Stainless steel is the substrate on record for the 1001-1, and the series is produced in stainless steel, brass, bronze or aluminum depending on finish. Practically, the 629 and 630 stainless finishes are the stainless base; the brass and bronze finishes such as 605, 606 and 613 come on a brass or bronze base. Order by finish code and the base metal follows.
17) On a high traffic school or government door, what pull matches the Trimco 1001-1's stainless push plate?
The Trimco 1001-1 is a stainless steel push plate specified for schools, public buildings, commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, and multifamily. On the pull face, the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull handle, 7/8" diameter, with through-bolt mounting, and the ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end pull handle at 1.00" diameter for commercial doors. Through-bolt mounting carries the load through the door rather than into the face, which is the usual approach where the pull side takes the abuse and the push side is served by a flat plate.
18) What is the difference between the offset ABH pulls and a Trimco 1001-1 for hand clearance?
The Trimco 1001-1 push plate is a flat 3" x 12" plate pencil beveled on all four edges, with no projection off the door face to reach behind. Where clearance for the hand is needed, the offset pulls provide it: the ABH AB3310 is an offset flat end door pull handle in a commercial grade surface mount, the ABH AB3330 is an offset round end pull with custom length options, and the Ives 8169 is a C style offset solid door pull, 1" diameter, with heavy duty mounting. Those go on the pull face of the door, with the flat 1001-1 plate opposite them on the push side.
