Trimco 1001-3 Heavy Duty Push Plate (4" x 16")

The 1001-3 measures 4 x 16 inches, which is one of Trimco's five standard 1001 Series sizes (3x12, 3-1/2x15, 4x16, 6x16 and 8x16). If the plates coming off are a smaller standard size like 3x12 or 3-1/2x15, the 4x16 covers more door face and usually hides the old holes. Going the other way, from a 6x16 or 8x16 down to the 4x16, it won't. The plate is supplied with oval head screws, so you get fresh fasteners either way.

Cut for cylinder means the plate is machined with an opening so a mortise cylinder or a night latch cylinder can pass through the plate face. Order it when the push side of the door also carries a cylinder, typical on a storefront or a rim exit device opening keyed from outside. If there's no cylinder in the door at that location, order the plain version, since a cut you don't use leaves a hole in the plate. Both versions of the 1001-3 come in the same ten finishes, so the cut doesn't limit your finish choice.

ADA compliant, yes. A push plate is the simplest way to meet the requirement for hardware operable without grasping, pinching or twisting the wrist, because there's nothing to operate at all, you just push. Trimco lists the 1001 Series for schools, public buildings and facilities, commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, and multifamily and mixed use.

Not the same part. The 1001-3 cut for cylinder is a flat 4 x 16 inch protection plate with an opening machined through it for the cylinder, so it sits behind or around the cylinder on the push side and does not give you anything to grab. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 night latch cylinder pull is a 3-1/2 inch high stainless pull with the cylinder hole built into a handle, meant for the pull side of a narrow stile door where you key in and pull with the same piece of hardware. Choose the Trimco if you want face protection with a cylinder passing through, and the Cal-Royal if you need the handle.

The Ives 8102HD is a heavy duty straight door pull with a 3/4 inch round bar and 1-1/2 inch clearance, and the Ives 8103HD is a heavy duty straight pull with a 1 inch round bar and through bolt mounting. Both are rated heavy duty, matching the .050 inch stainless construction of the 1001 push plate for school, public building and commercial traffic. Order the pull in a finish that matches the plate finish you select, such as 630 satin stainless steel.

An offset pull such as the Ives 8145EZHD 45 degree offset or the Ives 8169 C style offset with a 1 inch diameter projects off the door so a hand can wrap it and draw the door open. They serve opposite faces of the same opening, so an offset pull replaces a push plate only if the door swing direction changed and the face now needs pulling rather than pushing.

The Trimco 1001-3 is ADA compliant and can be ordered cut for cylinder when a rim or mortise cylinder passes through the plate. If the opening instead needs the cylinder in a grip on the pull side, the Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull with a 3-1/2 inch height in stainless steel construction, which houses the cylinder in the pull itself. For an offset grip on an ADA opening, the Ives 8145EZHD is an ADA compliant offset pull with heavy duty mounting hardware.

The plate is .050 inch thick stainless steel, brass, bronze or aluminum, which is the heavy duty gauge rather than the thin decorative stock. That's what holds up on a corridor door taking hundreds of pushes a day, in a school or a hospital wing. It's made in the United States. Trimco also offers 1/8 inch plastic in the series if you want a non metallic plate.

710CU Steralloy Silver is Trimco's Healthy Hardware finish, a copper bearing surface applied to touch hardware. A push plate is the single most touched surface on a door, which is why it's offered here. Facilities standardizing on antimicrobial touch points in healthcare, schools or food service usually specify it across push plates, pulls and levers together. It's available on both the plain and the cut for cylinder version of the 1001-3.

Ten finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 matte black, 626 satin chrome, 628 satin aluminum, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, and 710CU Steralloy Silver. 630 satin stainless is the workhorse on commercial openings and matches most levers and closer covers already in a building. 626 satin chrome is the usual match if your existing trim is chrome plated brass. All ten are offered with or without the cylinder cut.

On the pull side, the ABH AB3310 is an offset flat end pull described as commercial grade surface mount, and the ABH AB3300 straight flat end pull and AB3330 offset round end pull are the 1.00 inch diameter straight and round end members of the same family, with the AB3330 offered in custom lengths. By contrast the ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull with a 7/8 inch diameter and through-bolt mounting, and the Ives 8103HD also uses through bolt mounting, both of which put fasteners through the door leaf.

Trimco builds the 1001 Series as commercial hardware, and the .050 inch stainless construction is aimed at corridor and entry traffic rather than a residential interior door. That said, multifamily and mixed use is one of the listed applications, so it's the right part for a building's common doors, laundry rooms, stair doors and trash rooms. For a decorative residential entry the Emtek Arts and Crafts or Baden 8 inch door pulls are a different animal entirely, cast trim for a front door rather than a protection plate.
