Trimco 1001-3.BPVC – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the Trimco 1001-3 push plate and what other 1001 Series sizes exist?
The 1001-3 is the 4 x 16 inch plate. Trimco's 1001 Series standard sizes are 3 x 12, 3-1/2 x 15, 4 x 16, 6 x 16 and 8 x 16 inches, and custom sizes are made as well. The 4 x 16 is the common choice on standard commercial doors where you want a taller push area than the 3 x 12 without covering as much of the stile as the 6 or 8 inch plates.
2) How does the Trimco 1001 push plate mount to the door, and is hardware included?
It surface mounts with oval head screws, which are supplied with the plate as standard. There is no through-bolting and no door prep beyond the screw holes, so it goes onto a wood or hollow metal door face directly. Mounting hole center-to-center is 3 inches.
3) Is the Trimco 1001-3 push plate ADA compliant for a public building?
Yes, the 1001-3 is listed ADA compliant. A push plate is inherently ADA friendly since it requires no grasping, pinching or twisting to operate, which is why these show up on school, government and public facility doors.
4) The push side of the door needs a graspable handle instead of a flat plate - what should I use in place of the Trimco 1001-3?
The Trimco 1001-3 is a flat 4" x 16" push plate in stainless steel, meant to take hand pressure on the push side with nothing to grip. If the opening needs a handle a hand can wrap around, the Ives 8103HD is a heavy duty straight door pull with a 1" round bar and through bolt mounting, and the Ives 8102HD is a heavy duty straight pull with a 3/4" round bar and 1-1/2" clearance. Those are pulls, not plates, so the door prep and mounting differ.
5) We need an ADA compliant option on the pull side to pair with a Trimco 1001 push plate - what works?
The Trimco 1001-3 push plate is ADA compliant and intended for commercial use. On the pull side, the Ives 8145EZHD is a 45 degree offset door pull with heavy duty mounting hardware that is described as ADA compliant, so the two can be specified together on a push/pull opening.
6) What is the Cool Touch coating on the Trimco 1001-3 push plate for?
The Cool Touch version of the 1001-3 is the antimicrobial-minded option Trimco groups under its Healthy Hardware line. It is the same .050 inch heavy duty plate, coated on the touch surface, which is why it gets specified on healthcare, school and multifamily doors that see constant hand contact.
7) Is the Trimco 1001 push plate heavy enough for a high traffic school or hospital corridor door?
It is built for exactly that duty. The plate is .050 inch thick stainless steel rather than thin decorative stock, it is a commercial-rated item, and all four edges are pencil beveled so there is no sharp edge for hands or carts. Trimco calls out schools, public buildings, commercial and industrial buildings, government and military facilities, and multifamily as the target applications.
8) Should I use a push plate or a door pull on my door?
Push plates like the Trimco 1001 go on the push side of a door that has no latch to retract, protecting the door face from hand and cart contact while giving a flat, no-grip surface. On the pull side you need an actual handle: ZenSupply carries straight bar pulls such as the Ives 8102HD and 8103HD, and offset styles like the Ives 8145EZ or the ABH AB3310. A common commercial pairing is a pull on one face and a 1001 push plate on the other.
9) Will a 4 x 16 push plate fit on a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
Not usually. A 4 inch wide plate needs at least that much flat stile face plus clearance from the glass stop, and narrow stile storefront doors often do not give you it. On those openings the 3 x 12 or 3-1/2 x 15 size from the same 1001 Series is the safer fit. Measure the flat face of your stile before you commit to the 4 inch width.
10) What is the difference between the Trimco 1001-3 and a back-to-back pull set like the Deltana SSPOBB24?
The Trimco 1001-3 mounts on one face as a 4" x 16" flat plate with oval head screws, protecting the push side of the door. The Deltana SSPOBB24 is a 24" back-to-back modern offset pull set, meaning handles on both faces of the door fastened through it, and the Deltana SSPORBB24 is the round offset version of the same back-to-back arrangement. Back-to-back sets require through holes in the door; the push plate does not.
11) Is an Emtek Art Nouveau or Baden door pull a substitute for the Trimco 1001 push plate on a school corridor door?
They serve different openings. The Trimco 1001-3 is a commercial .050" stainless steel push plate specified for schools, public buildings, government facilities and multifamily. The Emtek Art Nouveau 8" door pull is lost wax cast bronze and requires selecting handing, and the Emtek Baden and Brisbane are 8" decorative pulls - these are single grip handles in decorative series rather than flat protective plates for high traffic corridor push sides.
12) Will a Cal-Royal PUL-175 do the same job as the Trimco 1001-3?
No. The Cal-Royal PUL-175 is a night latch cylinder pull, 3-1/2" high in stainless steel, used at a rim cylinder on the exterior of a door. The Trimco 1001-3 is a 4" x 16" stainless push plate with no cylinder cutout, mounted flat to protect the push face. They are not interchangeable.
13) What are the options if I want a through-bolted stainless pull on the same door as the Trimco 1001 push plate?
The ABH AB7200 is a solid stainless steel flat end pull handle, 7/8" diameter, with through-bolt mounting, and the ABH AB3300 is a straight flat end commercial pull with a 1.00" diameter. The Trimco 1001-3 push plate itself is stainless steel and ships with oval head screws, so the two faces can be finished in matching stainless.
14) Can I get the Trimco 1001 push plate in brass or bronze instead of stainless?
The 1001 Series is produced in stainless steel, brass, bronze and aluminum, with a 1/8 inch plastic option as well. The 1001-3 Cool Touch plate itself is stainless steel. If a project is specified in brass or bronze for the finish to match existing trim, that is a different material call-out within the same series.
15) Offset pull versus the Trimco 1001 plate - when does the offset make more sense?
A flat plate like the Trimco 1001-3 suits the push side, where the hand only needs a durable surface to press. Where the door must be pulled, an offset handle gives knuckle clearance: the ABH AB3310 is an offset flat end surface mount commercial pull and the Ives 8169 is a C style offset solid pull at 1" diameter with heavy duty mounting. Many commercial openings use the push plate on one face and an offset pull on the other.
16) Is a Deltana SSP1210 a reasonable alternative to a Trimco 1001 push plate on a residential-style entry?
The Deltana SSP1210 is a 12" contemporary pull mounted on a single side, so it gives a grip rather than a flat bearing surface. The Deltana OHP620 is an off-set handle pull sold as a back-to-back set for doors 1-1/8" to 1-3/8" thick. The Trimco 1001-3 is a commercial 4" x 16" push plate, a different function on the door.
17) Which pull gives the best grip in a wet or gloved-hand area compared with a smooth plate?
The Trimco 1001-3 push plate presents a smooth pencil beveled stainless surface, which is what you want on a push side. Where a textured grip is needed on the pull side, the Sure-Loc Knurled Long Door Pull is offered single-sided with thru-bolt mounting and also in a double-sided version.
